At Madeleine’s Repair and Service (MRS Garage), we specialize in high quality maintenance, repair, and customization of Volkswagen vehicles, including the iconic Westfalia campers. I'm heartbroken to have to share the news that we lost an incredible mechanic and friend this week. Many of you know Melvin the mechanic, he started working at Gunther's in 1988 and had immense knowledge of all things VW and a passion for his work. He was a great friend and mentor to me. He was incredibly kind, gentle and caring. He would go out of his way to help friends and family, often working on weekends or evenings to help get their cars back on the road. While most of his career was spent working on Volkswagens Melvin would work on anything that came his way.

After over 20 years working as a mechanic Melvin challenged his Red Seal and was awarded with his Automotive Service Technician licence. This came with a shiny red pin that he wore proudly!

I was lucky enough to have gotten to work with Melvin at the shop this past week. He brought so much of the joy and family feel that this shop has always had. He loved music, once we got the right radio station back on (classic rock) I could hear him quietly singing along while working away and everything felt so right. We even got a special visit from Junior at the shop and it felt like a family reunion having the three of us back in the shop together even if only for a few minutes. I'm forever greatful for the time I got to spend with Melvin over the years and the knowledge he passed on to me.
