Most people think of hearing loss as an ear problem. It is really a brain problem.

Your ears pick up sound, but it is your brain that turns those signals into words, meaning, and memory. When hearing fades, the brain receives less input. Over time, the areas responsible for language, focus, and memory have to work harder, and some start to quiet down.

Research now links untreated hearing loss to a higher risk of cognitive decline and dementia. That is not meant to scare anyone. It is meant to change how we think about hearing care.

Treating hearing changes early is one of the most powerful things you can do for long term brain health. Clearer sound means less effort for the brain, easier conversations, and more energy left for the things you love.

If you have been wondering whether your hearing is keeping up, that is a good enough reason to come in.

Your ears are as unique as your fingerprints. Your hearing protection should be too.

Off-the-shelf foam plugs are fine in a pinch, but they were never made for your ear. They can slip, block too much or too little sound, and most people stop wearing them altogether.

Custom earplugs are moulded to the exact shape of your ear canal. They sit comfortably, stay put, and are designed to protect your hearing without making you feel cut off from the world around you.

We make custom protection for a long list of everyday needs. Concerts and live music. Motorsports. Hunting and shooting. Loud workplaces. Swimmers who want to keep water out. Sleepers with a noisy partner. Musicians who need to hear clearly while still protecting their ears.

Good hearing is worth protecting now, not after the damage is done. And we can make them in custom colours too!

Have you ever left a busy room feeling completely drained, even though nothing stressful happened?

That fatigue often has more to do with your hearing than you think. When the ears are working harder to keep up, the brain is working harder too. Over time, that effort adds up.

On May 30th, join us for Hear It for the Brain, a free community event at The Creative Hive. We will walk through how hearing changes show up in everyday life, why tinnitus is often the first signal something deeper is happening, and what real, personalized care can look like.

Hosted by Kari Weisgerber, RHAP, BC-HIS, with over 28 years of clinical experience in hearing and tinnitus care.

Light refreshments and a complimentary copy of Kari's book for every guest.

If your tinnitus feels louder some days than others, you are not imagining it.

A few everyday habits can quietly turn the volume up without you noticing.

Skipping water. Mild dehydration can make ringing feel sharper.

High caffeine days. Extra coffee or energy drinks can leave the nervous system on edge, and tinnitus often follows.

Loud environments without protection. Even short bursts of loud noise can flare symptoms for hours afterward.

Poor sleep. A tired brain has a harder time filtering out the sound, so it feels more present.

High stress days. Tinnitus tends to feel louder when the body is already on high alert.

None of this means you have to live in a bubble. It just means small daily choices add up, and there are real treatment options when habits alone are not enough.

If tinnitus is starting to take up more space in your day, let's talk about your hearing.

If the ringing in your ears has become the loudest part of your day, this event is for you.

On May 30th, we are hosting Hear It for the Brain at The Creative Hive. A free in-person evening focused on something most people are never told.

Tinnitus and untreated hearing changes do not just affect your ears. They place real strain on the brain and have been linked to cognitive decline, social isolation, and increased dementia risk.

The evening is led by Kari Weisgerber, RHAP, BC-HIS. Kari is a Board Certified Registered Hearing Aid Practitioner with over 28 years of clinical experience, a Certified Tinnitus Care Provider, and a Certified Dementia Care Provider. Tinnitus care is one of her specialties, and this is a chance to hear directly from someone who works with it every day.

You will learn why tinnitus often feels worse over time, what the latest research says about the hearing and brain connection, and what real treatment looks like beyond simply living with the noise.

Every guest also takes home a complimentary copy of Kari's book, Hear It for the Brain.

Free to attend. Light refreshments included.

Most people do not think about hearing protection until they wish they had.

The concert decades ago. The years on the job site without earplugs. The lawn mower every Saturday. None of it felt like a big deal at the time. Hearing damage rarely announces itself in the moment. It shows up later, quietly, in the conversations that start to feel harder to follow.

Noise-induced hearing loss is one of the most preventable kinds, and protecting your hearing now is far easier than trying to repair it later.

Custom ear protection, smarter listening habits, and regular hearing checks all make a difference. Better hearing, better living starts with the small choices you make today.

Curious about protection options that actually fit your life? Let's talk. Visit www.hearinedmonton.com to book.

Some signs of hearing change are loud and obvious. Most are not.

You might find yourself turning the TV up a little more than you used to. Asking people to repeat themselves in restaurants. Feeling unusually tired after a long conversation, almost like your brain worked overtime to keep up.

These are early signs worth paying attention to. Hearing changes happen gradually, which is exactly why they are easy to brush off. The sooner you understand what is happening, the more options you have.

A hearing check is simple, comfortable, and gives you real answers about what your ears and brain are doing.

Ever notice how the ringing in your ears feels louder the moment your head hits the pillow?

There is a reason for that. During the day, your brain is busy filtering through traffic, voices, music, and background noise. At night, all of that quiets down, and tinnitus has nothing to compete with. The sound was always there. Now it just has the room to itself.

This is one of the most common frustrations we hear from patients, and it does not mean something is getting worse. It means your environment changed.

Several strategies can help, from sound therapy to personalized care plans built around how your tinnitus actually behaves.

May is World Hearing Month, and we are marking it with something we are genuinely excited about.

On May 30th, we are hosting Hear it for the Brain, a free in-person educational event at The Creative Hive. If you have ever experienced ringing or buzzing in your ears, trouble following conversations, or mental fatigue after noisy environments, this evening was built with you in mind.

Hearing changes are often dismissed as a normal part of aging. The reality is that untreated hearing loss and tinnitus place added strain on the brain and are linked to cognitive decline, social isolation, and increased dementia risk. The encouraging news is that early action genuinely changes outcomes.

The event is presented by Kari Weisgerber, RHAP, BC-HIS, a Board Certified Registered Hearing Aid Practitioner with over 20 years of clinical experience. Kari is also a Certified Tinnitus Care Provider and a Certified Dementia Care Provider, with a strong focus on the relationships among hearing, cognition, and quality of life.

Every attendee receives a complimentary copy of Kari's book, Hear it for the Brain, a practical guide to understanding hearing loss, tinnitus, and how informed hearing care supports brain health and independence as we age.

Free to attend. Light refreshments included.
