Here are a few photos of my latest project.1971 MGB GT with Webasto sunroof. The car was painted a few years ago but was never re assembled.
Should I stay with MGB power or Chevy V6?
I have a rebuilt 3.1 Chev which I bought years ago and is still in the plastic wrapping.
I will post progress.

Just completed a rebuild on a 1500 MGA engine. The engine came to me in pieces so there were a few issues with the re assembly.
Especially as I had never done a 3 main bearing before.
Someone had incorrectly marked the connecting rods. They would not line up with the crankshaft.
When I figured out the problem everything went together smoothly. When the engine was fully assembled I bench tested it.
75 PSI oil pressure and 170-175 compression on each cylinder.

From my post on August 24 2025. Here is a photo of the Datsun 280Z transmission with the front and rear housings removed. You can see that everything is mounted on the centre plate which is secured in my vise. It turns out the centre layshaft bearing mounted in the plate had come apart. Thankfully no damage to any of the gears. So rebuilt with the bearing and seal kit from Rock Auto and back in the 72 GT test car with a totally rebuilt engine bored .030" over with a mild cam.

There have been some questions recently on some of the MGB sites in regards to the Datsun 5 speed conversion. In particular the hydraulics for the slave system.
I have found the best route is with the Datsun system.
Using the slave cylinder and the flexible hose. The problem being hooking the hard line from the MGB to the metric thread on the slave.
The original union on the hard line has an unthreaded portion at the lower end. I remove the hard line from the car and remove this union. I then fit another union of the same thread and re flare the line and with 2 couplers the line will then fit the metric hose.
I have found that the flex hose from a late 70's Datsun 620 pickup is slightly longer than the stock 280Z hose.

From my last post engine and transmission installed into my 72 GT.
Transmission noisy in first and second gear.
Engine and transmission out and second transmission installed.
This one was good. I no sooner got everything working properly when I got a buyer for the complete set up. So out it came again.
I have 2 280Z transmissions which are noisy in first and second gear and now 2 overhaul kits from Rock Auto. My next job will be to rebuild these 2 units.
Posting photos of the GT with the 5 speed installed. Everything looks stock.

Next project. Datsun 280Z 5 speed mated to MGB engine. I have had this transmission under my bench for over 15 years. Time to check it out. I will be installing this set up into my 72 GT when the overdrive in the GT sells.

Finished the engine for the 58 MGA.
It has a mild road cam and the 12H2923 cylinder head with the slightly larger intake valves.
Installed the cylinder head with new stock studs. I was considering ARP studs but I didn't think it was worth the extra expense.
I also rebuilt a 25D 41491 distributor. I hope that will work well with this engine.
The customer will install the engine so hopefully there will be no problems.

Building a MGB engine for a customer for a 58 MGA.
I started with a standard block which I had bored to .20" and had the top of the block decked.
I started by using a tap to clean the threads on the block for the head studs.
I have also had the connecting rods re sized and am using new connecting rod bolts and nuts also new head studs.
Here are some photos of assembly.

Also on the 1980 MGB I wanted some different wheels. I found some 15" 4 bolt rims from a Saab. They are the correct bolt pattern but because the Saab is front wheel drive the rims have too much offset to the inside. I solved this by buying some longer wheel studs and using half inch spacers on the rear. This solved the problem. The wheels fit on the front with no issue. I am running 195/55 15 rubber.

I finally got around to doing some overdue work on my wife's 1980 MGB. Her biggest concern was when driving on a bumpy road she could hear clunking coming from the front suspension. After checking out the front end I noticed the mounting pads between the crossmember and the frame rail on the right side were missing. When the car was on the hoist with the wheel off I could lift the crossmember up.
I replaced the mounting pads with new urethane ones, replaced the kingpins with rebuilt units, replaced the pivot bushings on the wishbones with V8 bushings. Now the car drives much better with no noises.

I finally got to drive my 68 GT a few days before I had planned to take it to a local British swap meet and car show in Victoria to list it for sale. Imagine my surprise when the car is running great and it pops out of fourth gear. I thought perhaps I hadn't pulled the lever back far enough. But as the car ran longer it started to happen quite frequently. This was Thursday I had made plans to go to Vancouver on the Friday and on Saturday I had to get all my parts ready for the swap meet. Luckily my friend Steve drove the car to the meet on Sunday, the weather was rainy and a few people seemed interested in the car. Later on Sunday afternoon I had a phone call from someone interested in buying the car providing I could fix the fourth gear problem. Well I was able to fix that without having to pull the motor and transmission. And now the car is sold and buyer is very happy. I love it when a plan comes together!

More photos. Also I forgot to post whoever assembled the engine installed the oil thrower plate behind the timing cover the wrong way around. This plate has an F stamped on it. The F should face the timing cover. Also showing a photo of the clutch release arm.Quite often the pivot bolt and bushing are worn I replaced both.
