As summer wraps up, we reflect on this beautiful outdoor timber pavilion we recently engineered for our client in Hope. Being an exceptionally skilled homeowner, he was able to assemble the timber structure himself. No doubt this new outdoor space served up some good times this summer.

A Big Welcome to our 2026 Summer Student: Nolan Stepien-Froese

Nolan is an Engineering student who just finished his 1st year at UFV in Abbotsford. We don't typically take on 1st years, but Nolan impressed us with his keenness, technical ability and understanding of statics.
Nolan has been with us for just over a month and has already been a helpful contributor through the design of multiple building projects.

Thanks for all your hard work already Nolan. You have continued to impress us with your technical ability and we hope to provide you with a summer full of learning (and of course, some fun).

engaged us as their specialty engineer doing the timber connections on this one and working closely with them we were able to come up with some pretty efficient, easy to install connections on a tight timeline.

Today we send off one of our incredibly talented and thorough EIT, Shawn Fennerty.

Shawn has spent the last 3 years at Quantum Engineering doing structural design, field reviews and educating our team with his wealth of knowledge of hockey, music, & cars to name a few topics. Shawn is a deep diver, and when gets into something, he goes all in.
After fine tuning his engineering ability over his time here at Quantum, Shawn is now embarking on a new adventure and taking his passion for making music to the next level.

Shawn will be greatly missed around here, not only for his skill as an engineer, but for all that he brought to the office as a person, too! Nevertheless, the team here at Quantum Engineering wishes Shawn great success, a ton of fun & of course safety as he tours Canada sharing his musical talent.

Selfishly, we hope he'll be back after his adventure!

For the sixth post in our series, we are looking at this stunning private residence in the Lindell Beach area. This residence nestles perfectly into its surrounding and is complimented by the beautiful landscaping. On the structural side, the multiple but varying curved timber trusses caused us to find efficiency in our connection detailing while maintaining a sleek, yet simple design. We are definitely proud of the finished product here, and were happy to be a part of this team.

On Friday, Quantum Engineering reviewed the finishing touches of our longest lasting active project ever - 7 calendar years! The Parc Thompson Townhouse project in Richmond, BC got started in the design phase in 2019, with the final field review just last week, January 2026. Here's a few of the project details:
💡 Architectural Design by Yamamoto Architecture
🔨 24 multi-unit buildings & Amenity Building
🏠 120 residential units
♿ 27 convertible units for in-place aging (meaning easy removal of specific floor area for future lift install)
📅 7 calendar years of design & construction field reviews
📈Challenging soil conditions and high Earthquake forces of Richmond, BC

It was a pleasure being the Engineer of Record for this project, and working with the design team to bring this project to life! Great job team!

Turns out our structural designs aren't the only thing coordination we are doing around here! 3 of our engineers all sporting the same shirt randomly, on the same day. Perhaps this will be the new Quantum uniform...👔

⏱️After a bit of a hiatus, we are excited to continue showing off some of our favourite projects around Cultus Lake, BC.

For the fifth post in our series, we are changing it up and stepping away from custom houses temporarily to show off some well executed timber boardwalks. As anyone who has been to Cultus Lake in the summer knows, Columbia Valley hwy gets really busy and full. The addition of these boardwalks were very much needed.

🪏So, back in 2022 the FVRD engaged Quantum Engineering to perform the structural engineering design for the elevated walkways of the boardwalk. The design consisted of a mix of galvanized steel and pressure treated Spruce/Pine/Fir framing and decking.🪵

🏆We think the final product turned out great, and are happy to be part of the solution to providing a safer walking path along the Columbia Valley Hwy.
