Here's a breakdown we walk builders through constantly:

**Single-Hung (Vinyl Pro 30"×36"):**
Fixed upper sash. Only the lower sash opens vertically. This matters in bedrooms and rooms where you want controlled ventilation without sacrificing wall space — especially in tighter Maritime floor plans where furniture placement hugs the wall. The vertical operation means no swing clearance required inside the room. No screen interference from horizontal movement. Straightforward to install in standard rough openings.

**Single Slider (Vinyl Pro 30"×48"):**
One sash glides horizontally. This becomes the right call when the opening is wider than it is tall — kitchens, living rooms, basement egress windows where you need width-to-height ratio above 1.0. No vertical swing means it fits tight against a counter run without dead air above the sash. Ventilation is lateral, which changes airflow direction in the room.

Most renovation contractors in Atlantic Canada default to big-box sourcing for windows because the product is on the shelf today. That's a legitimate operational reason.
