If you've had ideas about how you'd use a spray drone on your farm this summer or fall, there are some amazing news. Health Canada's PRD issued a Letter of No Objection that allows drones to be used for the application of pest control products with aerial labels. We'll have some customized training coming up in the next few weeks.

Big news for Canadian farmers with a drone in the shed (or on the wishlist). Health Canada's PRD just issued CADA a Letter of No Objection — meaning if a pesticide product already has aerial label directions, it can now be applied by drone.

Think about what that means for a wet spring like this one: herbicide windows closing, fields too soft for the sprayer, and no practical ground option. This could be a real lifeline.

But — and this is important — the rules don't disappear. Labels, PPE, buffer zones, and all aerial requirements still apply and your provincial and Transport Canada certifications are still required. This is about doing it safely, not skipping steps.

We will be seeding our long-awaited pasture rejuvenation trials by drone tomorrow. We're seeding three different seed types with three different types of seed vessels. We are hoping that they solve two problems - improving legume establishment without incorporation and improving distribution of a diverse mix of seeds.

Folks like Greener Pastures Ranching have been seeding legumes on pasture for years and are of huge help with their advice. Just checked out this interesting podcast.

With all the rain we've seen lately, many fields are telling a different story from the air than they are from the road.

When conditions finally turn around, every day counts. Knowing where problem areas are, if crops are struggling, and where equipment can (or can't) go can help make those decisions a little easier.
