De-icer or aeration system: which one do you actually need? 🤔

They can both be used in winter, but they do different jobs.

A de-icer moves warmer water from below toward the surface to help keep a targeted area open. This is ideal for docks, marinas, and areas where ice control is the main goal.

An aeration system releases air through underwater diffusers to support circulation, oxygen transfer, and gas exchange. This is ideal when pond and fish health are the priority.

In some cases, the right answer is both.

Fallen leaves do not just disappear once they sink. 🍂

When leaves, dying algae, and other organic material settle on the bottom of your pond, they slowly break down over the winter. As they decompose, they can add to muck buildup, release excess nutrients back into the water, and contribute to spring algae growth, cloudy water, and odour issues.

That is why fall is one of the best times to start treating the bottom of your pond.

🚨 A frozen pond still needs to breathe.
