Redefining Prosperity: How Indigenous Innovation is Powering Canada’s Next Chapter

There’s a growing force shaping Canada's future, and it’s rooted in Indigenous knowledge, community leadership, and long-term thinking. The Indigenous Incubator Inc. (III) is leading that charge, helping to build a stronger country by supporting Indigenous entrepreneurs and businesses across key sectors like STEM, ESG, construction, trades, and workforce development.

At III, we believe prosperity starts with people. That’s why our work is grounded in mentorship, business development, industry alignment, and strategic partnerships that open doors for Indigenous youth and business owners. We’re not here to do things the old way; we’re here to do things the right way: sustainably, collaboratively, and with a vision that extends beyond the next fiscal quarter.

Indigenous businesses already contribute over $50 billion annually to the Canadian economy. With the right support, that number could double. The ripple effects: jobs, innovation, cultural pride, and thriving communities, are felt far beyond our borders.

Our services are designed to meet real business needs. Whether you're a government agency looking to fulfill your Indigenous procurement goals, a company in need of skilled trades and workforce solutions, or an organization seeking to build inclusive, community-centred projects, we can help.

Our Services Include:
- Mechanical Engineering: Innovative, reliable solutions for complex projects.
- Green Energy Solutions: Sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives for your operations.
- Construction Management Services.
- Plumbing: From routine maintenance to advanced systems design.
- HVAC: Customized heating, ventilation, and cooling solutions.
- Electrical Services: Professional-grade installations and repairs.
- Janitorial Services: Expert cleaning services for all facility types.

If your business or organization could benefit from these services, we’d love to connect. Partnering with Indigenous businesses isn’t just a gesture of inclusion; it’s a strategic investment in the kind of future we all want to see: sustainable, equitable, and prosperous.

Yesterday’s conversation was a powerful step forward.
On June 24, our team at Indigenous Incubator Inc. was proud to take part in the Calgary Chambers of Commerce Engagement Forum: National Indigenous Peoples Day, where the focus was on how procurement can drive reconciliation and open new pathways for Indigenous businesses.

Our founder, Rod Stagg, joined a panel of inspiring leaders including Ted Bauer (Alberta Counsel), Sarah Jacknife (Jacknife Consulting), Lexi Rensing (Keyera Corp.) and moderator Anne Harding (Forum Community Relations) for an honest discussion on the need to reset outdated procurement systems, and how organizations can help to support Indigenous Business in Canada.

As organizations rethink how they buy, the opportunity to support local, Canadian, and Indigenous businesses has never been more important. We’re grateful to the Calgary Chamber for hosting this vital dialogue, to the Confluence Calgary for graciously hosting; and to everyone who showed up with open minds and a shared commitment to change.

Let’s keep the momentum going.

June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day
Today, we honour the cultures, histories, and enduring strength of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Turtle Island.

At Indigenous Incubator Inc., we walk alongside Indigenous youth, entrepreneurs, and leaders who are shaping a future grounded in cultural wisdom, innovation, and community resilience.

This day is more than a celebration; it’s a reminder of the responsibilities we all share in advancing truth, reconciliation, and economic equity. Whether in business, STEM, trades, or community development, Indigenous people continue to lead with vision, strength, and purpose.

Take time today to listen, learn, support, and celebrate.

We’re proud to stand in community with those working toward a future where Indigenous voices are heard, respected, and empowered, every day of the year.

Last Wednesday, the Indigenous Incubator team, alongside Cougar Technical Services Founder Rod Stagg, was honoured to take part as Speakers, Judges, and Moderators at the Piitoayis Family School Elementary Science Fair.

Organized by our incredible colleague Will O’ Yeung through his Escape with STEM program, the event was a powerful celebration of innovation, culture, and the bright future of young Indigenous scientists.

We left inspired by the creativity and passion these students brought to their projects — proof that the next generation is already shaping tomorrow.

Honouring Indigenous Matriarchs – A Mother's Day Reflection

Mother’s Day is approaching, and we take this time to honour the strength, love, and teachings of Indigenous matriarchs. Our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunties, and cousins shape our families, communities, and future generations through their wisdom and care.

Our family systems are unique, rooted in kinship and connection, where children are raised to feel loved and cherished. We pass on traditions through song, storytelling, beading, sewing, ceremony, and nurturing close relationships with our relatives. In essence, building the homefire is at the heart of how we create that familial connection. Mothers are the vessels that bring souls from the spirit realm into the physical world, and they deserve our highest respect and gratitude.

Passing on knowledge happens when we create meaningful gifts for family or teach loved ones to bead, sew, sing, dance, speak our languages, and participate in ceremony. These acts of love and cultural transmission are the heart of our traditions.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the women who carry the stories, traditions, and spirit of our Peoples. Their resilience and cultural wisdom form the foundation of everything we do at Indigenous Incubator Inc., especially as we build programs that honour the next generation of leaders—our children. At the Incubator, we foster the healthy exploration of passions for Indigenous Peoples within trades, STEM, business, and nonprofit initiatives, supporting thriving families and communities.

To all the Indigenous matriarchs, thank you for your courage, care, and leadership. You walk with us in everything we do.

Indigenous Incubator Inc. proudly took part in the Startup Canada Tour and the Startup Global Pitch Competition in Calgary, standing alongside 65 of Canada’s most promising startups.

We showcased Art-Connect, our platform designed to help Indigenous artists reach their full market potential through digital tools and cultural entrepreneurship.

The global art industry is valued at $67 billion, with $10 billion driven by e-commerce. Of that, $2 billion is projected to come from Indigenous art, an incredible opportunity we’re excited to lead.

We’re honoured to have placed in the Top 5, a powerful recognition of the platform’s potential and the strength of Indigenous innovation in Canada’s startup ecosystem.

Indigenous Incubator Inc. is excited to announce a leadership transition that reflects our continued growth and expanding impact across Canada.

Rod Stagg, founder and CEO, will now serve as President of the Board of Directors for Indigenous Incubator Foundation. Rod’s vision brought the Incubator to life, transforming it into a national initiative supporting Indigenous youth in business, STEM, trades, and ESG. In his new role, he will focus on the long-term vision and strategic direction of the organization.

Kyle Balsdon steps in as Executive Director of Indigenous Incubator Inc, and CEO of the Indigenous Incubator Foundation, leading day-to-day operations and driving the Incubator’s growing portfolio of programs. Kyle brings energy, focus, and a strong commitment to Indigenous-led business and workforce development.

We also welcome Andrea James as Council. Founder of Jamesco Barristers & Solicitors, Andrea brings deep legal expertise across sectors like agriculture, construction, and engineering. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Law Society of Alberta, and holds an LLM in Tax Law from Osgoode Hall, with JD degrees from the University of Calgary and University of Houston.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and remain committed to empowering Indigenous communities through innovation, entrepreneurship, and long-term impact.
