Transmission won’t shift into second gear. Internal failure of the second gear synchro means this R56 Clubman is getting a new clutch, flywheel, and new(ish) transmission!

The hidden danger of an N54/N55 drive belt failure: Customer replaced their drive belt after it disintegrated on the highway. They noted the car doesn’t run well ever since. Fault memory with lean mixture faults and a quick smoke test confirmed the front crankshaft seal was damaged after pieces of the failed drive belt became wrapped around the crankshaft and were pulled into the crankcase through the seal. Luckily there wasn’t enough belt material pulled in to cause engine damage. We replaced the seal, dropped the oil pan to recover the belt debris and now this lucky E90 will live to see another day.

Full house today has me thinking how thankful I am to all of my customers that enable me to do what I love everyday. Being a small business owner has opened my eyes to how challenging this industry can be especially having to wear all the hats but I wouldn’t change it for the world 😃

The M performance power kit just wasn’t cutting it anymore for this customer. Adding much more substantial tune with a JB4 install on this beautiful F36 435xi. Next purchase better be a good radar detector 😉

If you look closely you can see a groove worn in the oil pump drive sprocket. This is what causes the whining noise before complete failure. Oil pump drive failure = no oil pressure = seized engine ☹️

Have you noticed any strange noises from your N20 four cylinder engine lately? Symptoms of wear in the timing chain include a whining noise which changes with engine speed and rattling noises under certain conditions. Left unchecked this can result in complete engine failure. This customer had us take care of it before it was too late- note the excess slack in the timing chain between the two VANOS units! Definitely not supposed to be there…
