In RWD and AWD vehicles, the Propeller Shaft (or Drive Shaft) is the essential bridge between the gearbox and the differential. It’s a masterclass in engineering, designed to handle massive torque while staying flexible enough for the road.

Here is a breakdown of the components that keep you moving:

🛠️ Key Components & Functions
Shaft Tube 🏗️

The "backbone." Made of high-strength steel or aluminum, it transmits rotational torque from the transmission to the differential while remaining lightweight and rigid.

Universal Joint (U-Joint) 🔄

The flexible hero. It allows the shaft to transmit power at different angles, compensating for the up-and-down movement of the rear axle as you drive over bumps.

Slip Joint / Sliding Joint 📏

The telescopic part. As your suspension moves, the distance between the gearbox and differential changes. The slip joint allows the shaft to shorten or lengthen, preventing axial stress on the transmission.
