Great meeting with Scott Cyr.
𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗻𝘆𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to meet with the Covenant Bonnyville Community Board at the Bonnyville Health Centre. Made up of dedicated local volunteers, the Board serves as an important link between Covenant Health, healthcare providers, patients, families, and the broader community by gathering feedback, advocating for local healthcare priorities, and helping ensure local voices are reflected in conversations about healthcare services and planning.
What makes the Board unique is that its work extends well beyond the boardroom. Members can often be found engaging with residents at community events, reading stories to children at the library, visiting with patients in the hospital, or supporting initiatives that promote health and wellness throughout the community. Their commitment to serving others is evident throughout Bonnyville and the surrounding area, and after spending time with them yesterday, it's easy to see why they have earned such strong community respect.
Our discussion focused on several healthcare priorities identified through community engagement, including continuing care capacity, long-term care needs, diagnostic services, emergency department pressures, and the future healthcare needs of our growing region. Hearing directly from community leaders and volunteers provides valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities facing healthcare in northeastern Alberta. Conversations like these help inform ongoing advocacy efforts as we work to strengthen healthcare services and capacity for a growing region.
Audrey Campbell and the members of the Bonnyville Health Centre Community Board deserve recognition for their commitment to our community. Through their advocacy, outreach, and volunteer efforts, they help build stronger connections between healthcare providers, community organizations, patients, and families. Their dedication to supporting both residents and healthcare workers helps ensure local voices continue to be heard as our healthcare system evolves and grows.
I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to our Site Administrator Shelly Franklin, Covenant Health, our physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and support staff for the care they provide every day. Whether caring for a patient in the emergency department, welcoming a new baby into the world, supporting a family through a difficult time, or helping someone recover and return home, their work touches countless lives across our region. Their dedication, compassion, and professionalism help ensure residents have access to quality healthcare services close to home.
Strong communities are built by people who step forward to serve others, and the Bonnyville Health Centre Community Board is a great example of that commitment in action. Thank you for helping make Bonnyville and the surrounding area a healthier and stronger place to call home.
