This is an item that first surfaced in Europe in 2024/2025. It seems that the security of data on booking.com is still an issue. This excerpt is from a CBC news report last week.

"In April 2026, Booking.com confirmed a data breach where unauthorized third parties accessed customer data, including names, phone numbers, email addresses, and reservation details, enabling "reservation hijacking" scams. While financial details were not compromised, scammers are using the stolen information to contact customers via apps like WhatsApp, demanding payment and requesting sensitive information."
