8 May 2026 - The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Brunei Darussalam Network recently organised a technical visit to Unified National Networks (UNN) Signal in Lambak, Berakas, providing members with valuable exposure to Brunei’s evolving telecommunications and digital infrastructure landscape.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by UNN’s Senior Vice President of Operations, Zulyada'in Hj Ibrahim Fisal, who shared insights into the organisation’s operational responsibilities, network infrastructure, and ongoing initiatives supporting Brunei Darussalam’s digital transformation agenda. Participants were also introduced to UNN’s role in enhancing nationwide connectivity, network reliability, and innovation within the country’s telecommunications ecosystem.

During the visit, IET members had the opportunity to engage with UNN professionals, gain a deeper understanding of network operations and signal management, and learn about emerging technologies shaping the future of communications infrastructure in Brunei. The session also encouraged knowledge-sharing and professional engagement between industry practitioners and engineering professionals.

The IET Brunei Darussalam Network expressed its appreciation to UNN for hosting the visit and reaffirmed its commitment to organising industry-focused activities that promote continuous learning, technical development, and collaboration among engineering and technology professionals in Brunei Darussalam.

4 April 2026 - IET Brunei Darussalam Network has recently conducted a technical visit to Atoll Oxygen Sendirian Berhad in Kuala Belait and was warmly welcomed by Mr Ankit J Patel, Director of Atoll Oxygen Sdn Bhd.

Atoll Oxygen Sdn Bhd is a Bumiputra company established on 26th March 2011 and is a proficient manufacturer of medical and industrial gases approved by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Development and a registered vendor of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd.

8 April 2026 - Technical Talk on Demystifying AI for Engineers: Preparing for the Future of Artificial Intelligence

Dr. Yong Chee Tuan highlighted why modern engineers must blend core technical expertise with AI literacy and data analytics. It also explained how AI differs from traditional "smart" tools by its ability to handle ambiguity and generate novel outputs. Additionally, AI improves project management through predictive analytics and streamlines administrative tasks like contract review and reporting.

Haziq Omar from Chung Hwa Middle School BSB also gave the audience a demonstration on using the AI, Runlinc, as one of the tools for academic and teaching purposes in his institution.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology Brunei Darussalam Network held its 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM) last Saturday, 31st January 2026 at Radisson Hotel, Brunei. The AGM received the Chairman’s Report and the Treasurer’s Report for the Session 2025, and saw the election of the new Office Bearers, Management Committee Members and Auditors for the term 2026.

The new management committee is comprised of professionals from different agencies and institutions. Ir. Dr. William Voon South Fee has been elected as the new Honorary Chairman. Also elected was Ir. Dr. Terry Douglas Jayasuriya as the Honorary Vice Chairman; Muhd Aminuddin bin Mohd Yussof as the new Honorary Secretary, Ir. Dk. Roselawati binti Pg. Hj. Halus as the new Honorary Treasurer and Akshara Asokan as the Honorary Assistant Secretary.

Other committee members include Lim Sam Lee, Ir. Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar, Ir. Simon K A Leong, Ir. Dr. Tang Shi Siong, Lt. Col. (U) Schufin bin Haji Brahim, Pg Hj Masle bin Pg Hj Hamid, Zainidi Hj Abd Hamid, Jevons Quiambao Penaflor, Ir. Liaw Ing Haur, Dr. Kenneth Siok Kiam Yeo, Ir. Dr. Law Kah Haw, Haji Nooryasmin bin Haji Mohd Noor, Tay Shieh Cherng, Md Zahin Syafiq bin Hj Mohd Azmi, Major (R) Wan Farhan bin Haji Ibrahim and Pg Hj Mohammad Ilham bin Pg Hj Othman.

Meanwhile, Ir. Chin Lee Tuck and Dr. Ang Swee Peng have been elected to as the Honorary Auditors for 2026.

Additionally, the IET Young Professional Section (YPS) elected Muhd Faiz bin Adros as Chairman, Hanan Abdullah as the Vice Chairman, Nur Farzana Saiful Azmi as Secretary and Md Rahimin bin Abdullah as Treasurer. Also elected as ordinary IET YPS members are Jevons Q. Penaflor, Tay Shieh Cherng, Ikhwan Tiong bin Abdullah, Akshara Asokan, Md Zahin Syafiq Hj Mohd Azmi and Munirah Isa.

In the AGM, the Honorary Chairman reiterated the vision and mission of IET and what the IET Brunei Darussalam Network stood for. With a mission among others, is to establish a culture of professionalism highly valued and appreciated by all in Brunei Darussalam. Increased membership and collaboration with relevant stakeholders will be key success factors in achieving this mission.

Highlighting IET's dedication to professional development, the AGM concluded with an interesting and informative technical talk entitled “Spectrum Management in Brunei Darussalam” by Ir. Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar.
