Modular construction presents a significant opportunity to drive the long-awaited industrialization of the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sector, which currently remains in a pre-industrial stage.
Historically, the AEC industry today mirrors the manufactory era of the 16th to 18th centuries, characterized by artisans working within their workshops—either dispersed or centralized—where production lacked standardization and repetition.
True industrialization in the AEC sector has yet to materialize and necessitates a fundamental paradigm shift.
While the essential conditions—such as advanced machinery and sufficient capital—for this industrial transition are already in place, the time has come for a transformative revolution in our approach to human activities within the AEC field. Embracing modular construction can catalyze this change, paving the way for greater efficiency and innovation in building practices.

Internship in Kurosawa’s Sofia office was a wonderful experience and a great career start for me.

The Future That Never Happened.

Kisho Kurokawa designed these capsules to be removable. The idea was simple: every 25 years, you could unbolt your apartment and replace it with a newer model, just like upgrading a car or a battery.

But there was a fatal engineering oversight. The capsules were attached to the central concrete core in a sequence that made individual removal nearly impossible. To replace a capsule on a lower level, you would often have to remove the ones above it first.

The result? In 50 years, not a single capsule was ever replaced or updated. The tower stood as a rusting monument to a Metabolist dream that couldn't survive reality, until its demolition in 2022.
