2 original Jeep starters overhauled and brought back to life!
First starter is a 12v, partly GPW, came in with the brushes and armature burned up...
I changed, the brushes, bushings, & installed a NOS starter repair kit & NOS Bendix shaft with spring, head and screws. The burned up armature was discarded and a used but good one was installed, which I tested & polished before installation.
When put back together, I was surprised that the new brushes were not making 100% contact with the armature, only to discover that the seat on the end plate were all moving, probably due to the high heat it endured earlier. To fix this issue, I installed another end plate on which I solder new brushes on and the problem was fixed!
It passed the power & load test, only pulling 20AMPS under load. It's been repainted for a full render!
Second starter is an Auto-Lite 6v which arrived in parts...
I also changed the brushes, bushings & installed a NOS starter repair kit & NOS Bendix shaft with spring, head and screws and tested & polished the used but good armature.
It also passed passed the power & load test and pulls approx 20AMPS under load. It's been repainted for a full render!
A new life was pumped into these motors 😄👍
