𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿'𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰

The PEMA Ottonel Popesco Student Challenge - now in its 13th year - is an annual competition that asks a question of third level students and challenges them to come up with an innovative solution applicable to the port and terminal industry. This year's topic is:

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗜 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁?

Open to students globally, the competition is now open for entries until 5th February 2027 and the winning team will receive a cash prize of €2,000!

That's a wrap on the 2026 PEMA Autumn Meeting!

Day 2 is always an interesting day for our members as it entails a guest speaker session that provokes interesting conversations about important topics facing the industry.

We were honoured to be joined by the Mayor of the Municipality of Ravenna Alessandro Barattoni for the keynote address to welcome our delegates to the region and to commence another important day of discussions.

A special thank you to our valued guest speakers - Gregoire Huet, James Gross, Christian Schroeder, Fabian Pfingsten and Richard Steele - for taking the time to attend and provide such insightful presentations on the topics of what terminals expect from OEMs, AI, cybersecurity, port operations and safety.

The meeting concluded with the poolside President's Dinner sponsored by MAC PORT LIEBHERR for another opportunity to come together and network over a meal following a day of discussions.

And finally, thank you to the 130+ members who joined us for the Autumn Meeting and made it such a productive, fruitful meeting. We look forward to reuniting with you all at our 2027 meetings!

As the curtain fell on the second conference day, our members gathered once again for a memorable President's Dinner poolside at MarePineta Resort.

The evening was generously sponsored by Mac Port who are based here in Ravenna, and we were glad to have them join us for a special meal. President Achim Dries led a toast to our sponsors, and thanked all members in attendance for making the 2026 Autumn Meeting another successful one.

A wonderful evening at Darsena del Sale.

Our members gathered for the networking dinner at the impressive 17th-century dock warehouse sponsored by Tratos. The occasion was made all the more special as Tratos is celebrating 60 years in business this year. And when in Italy, of course you must have tiramisu to celebrate!

The first day of the 2026 Autumn Meeting is behind us, and it was a day of fruitful technical discussions throughout.

It commenced with a tour of the Port of Ravenna, followed by interactive technical workshops with each of our four technical committees which led to valuable contributions to the White Papers to be developed.

We were also glad to welcome guest speaker Saverio Panico from BUNGE who gave an intriguing presentation on their role in the agri-logistics value chain - giving our members insight into logistics and operations in a different industry.
