Mekanika

Mekanika Mekanika is a platform offering innovative open source tools and machines. Making manufacturing accessible, one machine at a time. Our purpose?

We're on a mission to democratize local production and empower the makers, artisans, and tinkerers who believe in shaping a better world through meaningful creation. Make manufacturing more accessible at a local level. We believe that a large proportion of the products we use every day could be fully produced locally, reducing unnecessary product transports and creating meaningful jobs everywhere.

We design and build open-source CNC milling and screen printing machines, paired with comprehensive educational content that gets anyone creating products in just days, with no technical background required. Our approach combines open-source technology, accessible learning resources, sustainable production practices, and building a global community of makers who support each other. Last week, designers joined us at the Mekanika Lab for a hands-on introduction to CNC milling, organised in collaboration with .brussels.

Louise guided the group through each step: from first concept to CAD/CAM to finished part.

A great way to discover what’s possible when you add CNC to your creative toolkit!

We’ve got more workshops coming! Follow .brussels to stay in the loop.

Five minutes to set up. Then the Fab takes over.

Joffrey de Leener runs La Source • Micro scierie locale, a micro-sawmill that offers planing, jointing, cutting, pocket routing, and engraving, all with one machine.

While the Mekanika Fab works, he works too. On the next piece. On the finish. On whatever the client needs.

More autonomy, more services and more time where it counts.

The USB stick ritual.

Export the file, walk to the machine, plug it in, find it, run it. Spot a mistake, go back, fix it, re-export, walk back over.

That loop costs you more time than you think.

A shared folder cuts it entirely. Your machine shows up in your file explorer like any other drive. Save the file, it's already on your machine.

It takes about 5 minutes to set up, only once.

Still on the USB stick? The full guide on our bio.

Could CNC milling be part of how you create?

Join us in our Lab for another CNC milling workshop in collaboration with .brussels.

On Wednesday June 10th, our CNC expert Louise will guide participants through the full machining process, from CAD/CAM software to live demos.

There’s a few spots left, grab yours through the link in bio.

Ink. Screen. Squeegee. Done.

Screen printing is one of those processes that can look intimidating until you actually do it.

Set up your screen, pour your ink, one clean pass of the squeegee, and you've got a print that lasts.

That's what our press is built for: making the process feel as satisfying as the result.

Want to give it a try? Link in bio.

YOU ASK. WE ANSWER. What software should I use for CNC milling?

There's no single answer. There are actually three types of software involved, and the right combo depends on your budget, your machine, and what you want to make.

We broke it down, slide by slide.

Full comparison on our blog. Link in bio.

La Source • Micro scierie locale is a sawmill with a clear mission.

Source local trees within 25 km, and transform them into planks people can actually build with. Raw timber in, workshop-ready wood out.

To go all the way from trunk to finished board, Joffrey and his team invested in the Mekanika Fab. Planing, jointing, cutting, engraving. One machine that extended the whole range of services La Source can offer its clients.

A big thank you to Joffrey for sharing his journey with us.

Meet Corentin.

As a product designer, he shapes the look, feel, and usability of the machines we create, always balancing form, function, and a little flair.

Product designer by day, model by… also day.

Corentin could probably turn a DCK hose into a runway look, and here he is, proving exactly that.

It started with a sticker. Then another. Then it got out of hand.

Are you ready to mill? We always are!
