Things to Consider Before Buying or Installing Solar Panels________________________________________Solar cell efficiency
Solar panel efficiency represents how effectively a solar panel can convert solar radiation (e.g. sunlight) into electricity. The most efficient solar panels commercially available today have solar panel efficiency just under 23%.
The average allowed efficiency according to PWD schedule of rates of PV module should be minimum 17%.
How much energy can 250-watt solar panels produce?
The energy production of a solar panel is measured in the number of kilowatt-hours (kWh). A 250-watt solar panel will produce approximately 1 kWh of solar power per day. This figure will vary depending on your geographic location, shading, the panel's power tolerance, and the angle of your panels.
Power Tolerance
Power tolerance indicates how the power output of a solar panel might differ from its nameplate rating. For example, a 300-watt panel with a +/- 5% power tolerance could actually produce anywhere from 285 watts to 315 watts under ideal conditions (as 15 watts is 5% of 300 watts). A narrower power tolerance range is preferable to a wider one, because it represents more certainty.
Temperature Coefficient
The temperature coefficient quantifies how a panel’s power capacity decreases at temperatures higher than 25°C. For example, many standard grade solar panels may produce 1 percent less electricity for every 2.7°C temperature increase above 25°C. Panels with less sensitive temperature coefficients will perform better over the long term.
Installation Guidelines for Tropicalized Country Like Bangladesh.
*Solar panels shall be installed pointing to the right direction to capture most of the solar energy to transform it into electricity with the facility to be adjusted from the horizontal to 12 degree in summer and to 35 degree in winter to get the maximum efficiency and must face the true south in our country. For fixed panel mounting system, the panels must be tilted (22.5 ± 1) degree with horizontal and must face the true south in BANGLADESH.

*As per order no 27.052.031.00.00.001.2010-847, date 07.11.2010 of Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the requirement for solar power installation are as follow:

 In case of Electrical Load Demand less than or equal 2KW then no solar power is required.
 In case of residential building if electrical load demand is more than 2KW then the requirement of solar load demand is 3% of total load of the building or area.
 In case of Industrial and Commercial Building if electrical load demand is less than or equal to 50KW,then the requirement of solar load is 7% of only light and fan Load of that building or area.
 In case of Industrial and Commercial Building, if the electrical load demand is above 50KW then the solar load is10% of only light and fan load of that building or area.
 In case of Garments Industry, the requirement of solar loadis 5% of only light and fan Load of that building or area.

Lightning protection technologies
1. Lightning protection system with early streamer emission air terminal (ESEAT)
The early streamer emission (ESE) concept --During a storm, when the propagation field conditions are favourable, the OPR first generates an upward leader. This leader from the OPR tip propagates towards the downward leader from the cloud at an average speed of 1 m/µs. The triggering time ∆T (µs) is defined as the mean gain at the sparkover instant (continuous propagation of the upward leader) obtained with an ESE air terminal compared with a single rod air terminal exposed to the same conditions. ∆T is measured in the high-voltage laboratory, all tests are defined in appendix C of the French standard NF C 17-102. The triggering time instance gain ∆T is associated with a triggering time distance gain ∆L. ∆L = v. ∆T, where: – ∆L (m): gain in lead distance or sparkover distance – v (m/µs): average speed of the downward tracer (1 m/µs). – ∆T (µs): gain in sparkover time of the upward leader measured in laboratory conditions. OPR air terminals are especially effective for the protection of classified industrial sites, administrative or public buildings, historical monuments and open-air sites such as sports grounds.

6. Earthing ( 2 nos.) for the lightning arrester
i) Soil digging : Size – 3000mmx400mmx400mm (2 nos.)
ii) Size of the pit : (600mmx600mmx600mm) (2 nos.)
iii) Copper plate : (300mmx150mmx15mm) (2 nos.)
iv) Copper electrode (12.7mm dia copper rod or copper strip (30mmx2mm)
v)nLength of the copper rod or strip : minimum 3000mm
(10+10) = 20 meter.
vi) Ground enhancing materials (40 + 40) = 80 kg.

*Lightning protection system with meshed cages
A meshed cage installation is made up of:
– devices to capture the atmospheric discharges consisting of strike points
– roof conductors
– down conductors
– protection measures against injuries to leaving being due to touch and step voltages (e.g. warning notice)
– an equipotential bonding between each earth and the general earthing circuit of the structure; this one must be disconnectable.
