Engineering of Electricity Transmission

Electricity begins its journey at a power plant, where generators produce electrical energy. The generated voltage is increased by a step-up transformer to a high voltage such as 132 kV, 230 kV, or 400 kV for efficient long-distance transmission.

The electricity then travels through high-voltage transmission lines to grid substations. At substations, transformers reduce the voltage to suitable levels for distribution, such as 132 kV, 33 kV, or 11 kV.

Centrifugal Pump
The centrifugal pump supplied by Iqbal & Brothers Ltd. is a horizontal, single-stage, end-suction centrifugal pump designed for industrial and chemical-process applications. The pump configuration is commonly referred to as an ANSI pump or ANSI/ASME B73.1 pump. ASME B73.1 is the specification for horizontal end-suction centrifugal pumps for chemical-process service and establishes standardized dimensional and design requirements for this type of pump.

The primary objective of the ASME B73.1 standard is to provide dimensional interchangeability between pumps manufactured by different qualified suppliers. According to the standard, pumps having the same standard dimension designation are intended to be interchangeable with respect to important installation interfaces, including mounting dimensions, the size and location of suction and discharge nozzles, input shaft dimensions, baseplates, and foundation bolt-hole locations.

The pump consists principally of a pump casing, impeller, shaft, bearing housing, bearings, mechanical seal or shaft-sealing arrangement, coupling, and baseplate. During operation, the rotating impeller transfers mechanical energy from the driver to the pumped liquid. Liquid enters the pump through the suction nozzle and is accelerated by the rotating impeller. The casing then converts a portion of the liquid velocity into pressure and directs the liquid toward the discharge nozzle. This arrangement provides the required flow and discharge pressure for the connected process system.
