How FM-200 Works

1. Fire Detection
Smoke or heat is detected by the fire detection system.
Smoke detectors
Heat detectors
Aspirating smoke detection systems
The signal is sent to the fire alarm control panel.

2. Alarm & Pre-Discharge
The system activates:
Audible alarms
Visual strobes
Warning messages
A time delay (typically 10–30 seconds, depending on design requirements) allows occupants to evacuate before discharge.

3. Agent Release
The control panel energizes a releasing device on the FM-200 cylinder valve.
The agent is discharged through a piping network and nozzles into the protected room.

4. Fire Extinguishment
FM-200 (chemical name: HFC-227ea) suppresses fire primarily by absorbing heat from the flame and interrupting the combustion process.
Unlike water systems, it leaves no residue and is generally safe for sensitive electronics.

5. Post-Discharge
The fire is extinguished within seconds if the enclosure integrity is maintained.
The protected room should be ventilated before re-entry after an incident.
The system is inspected and recharged before being returned to service.
