♻️ Works continue to progress on the construction of a recycling shed at the Zeehan Landfill, with the following carried out over the last week:

✔️ Parging of the pit bases
✔️ Installation of the steel frame
✔️ Excavation and installation of two stormwater downpipes
✔️ Installation of roof purlins
✔️ Hardstand works underway

📆 The project is expected to be completed at the end of November.

The recycling shed will be a major step towards our commitment to offer more efficient and sustainable waste management across the region.

❓ Why is the shed needed?
Currently, recyclable waste is transported fortnightly to Spreyton, which incurs significant operational costs. The new shed will allow for more efficient handling and consolidation of recyclables, reducing the number of trips to two per year, lowering operational costs.

❓ Does recycling go to landfill?
Currently if non-recyclables are placed in the yellow-lid recycling wheelie bin, it can compromise the load. If contamination is too high, the entire truck load may need to be diverted to landfill, which is both costly and environmentally unsustainable. Although the recycling shed will provide the space for staff to sort the load, we really need residents to do the right thing and place only recyclables in their yellow-lid recycling wheelie bin.

10-Year Survey Complete – Hydrowood Log Barges

Yesterday our team wrapped up the 10-yearly survey works on Hydrowood’s log barges — each section measuring 12m x 3m x 1.5m. Navigating the narrow, windy Argent Road certainly tested our operator’s skills, but the job was delivered safely and on time.

Scope of Works:

🔹 Transport to/from Lake Pieman by our Crane & Haulage Division
🔹 Structural welding repairs in-house at our fabrication workshop
🔹 Sandblast & paint to strict maritime protection standards

This ensures Hydrowood can continue harvesting specialty timbers from Tasmania’s wild West Coast for another decade.
