This is an older story, but it's one that still gives me goosebumps every time I watch it.
Back in 2012, Hurricane Sandy devastated parts of the US East Coast, causing enormous destruction, taking lives, and leaving many families with nothing. What makes this video different is that it isn't a marketing campaign or a sales pitch. It's a genuine interview with a family from Union Beach, New Jersey, sharing how they survived one of the most destructive storms in US history.
The Sochacki family watched neighbouring homes collapse around them, while the reinforced concrete ICF home they had built remained standing with only minor damage. More importantly, it protected their family and preserved the memories they had worked so hard to create.
Whether it's hurricanes, bushfires, floods, cyclones, or severe storms, this story reminds us that the way we build our homes can make a huge difference when nature is at its worst.

If you're considering building a new home or looking for a more resilient construction method, I encourage you to watch this short video. It's a powerful real-life example of why building strength and durability into a home matters.

At Housekonsept, we're always happy to assess your project and supply high-quality ICF solutions across Australia.

Commercial ICF construction is becoming more common around the world, yet we still see very little of it here in Australia.
There is enormous potential for childcare centres, schools, universities, hospitals, aged care facilities, and other commercial buildings. ICF offers outstanding safety, durability, acoustic performance, and energy efficiency while helping reduce long-term operating costs.
This is a great example of a large-scale ICF project in Florida – the Drury Plaza Hotel.

Do you think Australia is ready to embrace more ICF construction for commercial projects? We'd love to hear your thoughts.

Great ICF Case Study and Timer vs ICF.

"When we were researching our “forever home”, we chose Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) construction for a number of reasons. It’s tough, energy efficient and designed to last a lifetime with minimal upkeep.

After living in our ICF home for over 20 years, I can confidently say it was one of the best decisions we made".

Speedy construction can help solve the housing crisis, labour shortages, and limited building capacity.

Build faster without compromising on quality or long-term performance.

An average basement of ~167 m², with 2.4 m wall height and around 10 corners, can be stacked by a crew of 3 in just one day.
Add a few more hours to pour the concrete and it’s done.
Ready to move to the next stage:
render, gyprock, and internal features & fixtures.

That’s how efficient ICF can be.

ICF is the skeleton of the structure, just like timber framing, which is still common across Australia.

But here’s the difference:
👉 Timber can be replaced with ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms)
And when you do that, you’re not just changing materials, you’re upgrading the entire performance of the home.

✔️ Strong reinforced concrete core
✔️ Built-in insulation (thermal + acoustic)
✔️ Better temperature control (less heating & cooling costs)
✔️ Fire resistance and added protection
✔️ More resilient to extreme weather and natural disasters

You can still finish the home with brick, render, or any external cladding, but behind it, you’ve got a solid, insulated concrete structure doing the real work.

See example detail here:

Build smarter. Build stronger. Build with ICF.

A recent 9News report showed a police car crashing into the same Sydney family home for the second time in two years, causing such severe damage that the family could not stay there overnight. Thankfully, no one was injured. https://www.facebook.com/reel/2148882959192276

But this raises an important question: what if someone had been inside that front room facing the road?

This is exactly why stronger building systems matter. A home is not just walls, it is a safe shelter, a place of comfort, and a space full of family memories.

With Housekonsept ICF systems such as Quad-Lock and Polywall, reinforced concrete is poured into a continuous monolithic wall, creating an extremely strong and resilient structure. Compared with brick, timber, or many weaker wall systems, the structural damage from a major impact could be dramatically reduced. In many cases, the car may absorb far more of the impact, while the wall remains largely structurally intact.

ICF also delivers more than strength. It helps provide better insulation, better thermal performance, and better noise reduction, especially near busy roads.

The moral of the story is simple: why do we keep building with inferior, poorly insulated systems when stronger, safer, and smarter solutions already exist?

Choose ICF as your preferred building system because your family’s safety is in your hands.
