Working on the early oval today
Steering column is now fitted correctly and the front spindles are being swapped over with some 2 1/2 dropped ones which will give it a nice stance.
It’s a great opportunity to check the front suspension components to see that everything is in spec.

Ticking off a few more jobs on the 71 beetle

Did you know if you fit a battery around the wrong way - to + etc into a beetle it will often work what seems just like normal.

A few things being to change like the polarity of your generator and battery.

Often the first give away is gauges and radios stop working as they are sensitive to polarity.

To rectify the error after draining the battery and recharging with the correct polarity you also need to polarise the generator. Basically it’s like wiring it up like a motor to correct the fields.

Unfortunately the original disc rotors weren’t going to clean up and be within tolerance.
So new rotors and calipers are going on.
Sadly a lot of new readily available parts are cheaper than rebuilding original parts but sometime you have to look at it like just being lucky you can still buy stuff to suit these amazing little cars👍
