Three truths and a lie (can you tell which is which? ๐Ÿค” )

1๏ธโƒฃ There's a group called WasteLess that's a volunteer-run SEE Change member group, just like the Toolbox is.

2๏ธโƒฃ The WasteLess group has a library of things too - but theirs is focused on items for serving food and drinks (think: mugs, bowls, cutlery).

3๏ธโƒฃ One of the things you can check out is a set of cups made entirely of cheese.

4๏ธโƒฃ You can borrow from their Reusables Library for FREE.

Can you tell which are the truths and which is the lie??? We made it extra-tricky!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Read more about WasteLess - and put in a request to borrow their ๐Ÿง€ cups - on the SEE Change website: https://www.seechange.org.au/reusables-library

(The pic is from Light Up Lyneham last August, where WasteLess had a great presence - their reusables were in use by multiple food trucks and stations, and a volunteer stood at the bin stations, as shown, to help people get everything into the right container ๐Ÿ’š )

What's Dave doing now??? ๐Ÿ˜€

In this winter weather, Dave's decided to pretend he's in Switzerland โ„๏ธ โ›ท๏ธ and make Spaetzle! Spaetzle (SPETZ-luh) are a soft, eggy noodle (or tiny dumpling) that you make by pushing dough through a special colander into boiling water. Dave has checked out the Toolbox Spaetzle maker ready to make a tasty dinner. The Spaetzle kit consists of the special colander plus a plastic scraper.

Step 1: Dave combines flour, milk, eggs, and salt to make batter.

Step 2: He moves the batter from the mixing bowl to the Spaetzle maker.

Step 3: The Spaetzle maker fits neatly onto the top of a saucepan (precision engineering FTW!), and Dave uses the plastic scraper that's part of the kit to push the batter through the holes into the hot water. He's wearing an oven mitt because there's steam and boiling water and Safety Dave knows how to be careful in the kitchen!

Step 4: Dave lets the Spaetzle cook in the water for 5 - 8 minutes, then skims them out and fries them briefly in a bit of butter. A lot of butter is also permissable. Even whacking great gobs of butter. You really can't have too much butter ๐Ÿงˆ

Step 5: He combines the Spaetzle with some other ingredients - in this case, pre-cooked potato, sweet potato, turkey, peas, and onions - in a small cast iron baking dish. He adds some grated cheese to the top. A lot of cheese is also permissable. Even whacking great - you get the point.

The dishes stay in the oven for 10 - 15 min. You certainly don't need cast iron to make this recipe work, but the dishes will stay gloriously hot throughout your meal. โ™จ๏ธ

Step 6: Time to eat! Add herbs, salt, some sauce of your choosing, whatever you like - und lass es dir schmecken!

There are lots of Spaetzle recipes online, and lots of ways to eat them - you're certainly not limited! Why not reserve the Spaetzle maker and try for yourself? ๐Ÿ’š

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY TOOLBOX
Short version: The Community Toolbox is a "library of things." Members can borrow more than 1,200 items that they may not want to buy (and store!) themselves. We're part of SEE Change and run 100% by volunteers ๐Ÿ’š

Longer version: A lot of our items available for loan are for DIY and home maintenance (think lawnmowers, saws, pressure washers, etc), but we have a wide range of other items including craft equipment, kitchenware, camping gear, books, and more. We're ideal for things that are expensive, bulky, niche, and/or that you may only need a few times a year, or even less often. Members pay an annual fee - there's a sliding scale so it's affordable for all income levels - and then can access the entire range of items to borrow.

We exist for multiple reasons - the top amongst them being sustainability. If we're able to share items and resources, fewer need to be produced, sold, and stored - and chucked into landfill when they break. That saves us all money, and also contributes to a cleaner and more sustainable world for all of us.

๐Ÿšจ The Toolbox is CLOSED today! (Saturday, June 6) ๐Ÿšจ

The Toolbox closes on public holiday weekends, and there's no Tool Bus, either.

Yes, we know that's TWO WEEKENDS IN A ROW that we've been closed ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Having two long weekends is lovely but we know it's meant less access to the Toolbox. On the bright side, we won't be closed for another long weekend until October...

Next open time is Thursday, June 11 - or you can catch the Tool Bus at Belco on Wednesday, June 10 (find the Facebook event for all the info, or look here: https://www.communitytoolboxcbr.org/toolbus).

Enjoy your long weekend, Toolboxers ๐Ÿ’š

Happy World Environment Day! ๐ŸŒ๏ธ

Every choice we make is a vote for the kind of world we want to live in ๐Ÿ’š

THANK YOU to all of you who choose to be part of the sharing economy by being a Toolbox member! More than 500 households across the ACT have made that choice now, and we simply cannot tell you how grateful we are ๐Ÿ‘

Why buy when you can borrow???

Borrowing helps you -
๐Ÿ’ฐ๏ธ Save money: You avoid the upfront cost of purchasing something that you may only use once or twice. Those costs can add up quickly!

๐Ÿงฐ Reduce clutter: Borrowing keeps your home free from infrequently used items, giving you a more organized and peaceful living space.

โฐ๏ธ Save time: You won't spend time managing, cleaning, or maintaining items you rarely use.

โ™ป๏ธ Help the environment: By borrowing, you reduce the demand for new products, which decreases manufacturing waste and consumption.

๐Ÿง Test before you buy: Borrowing allows you to try out a new hobby, a tool, or a piece of equipment to see if you enjoy it before investing in your own.

๐Ÿ”ง ๐Ÿงต ๐Ÿ”จ ๐Ÿด ๐Ÿงน ๐ŸŽจ ๐Ÿ›ถ โœ‚๏ธ Access a wider variety: You can access a vast collection of tools, books, kitchen equipment, and other items that would be impossible to own yourself.

What are you waiting for?! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ’š
