We officially opened our ‘doors’ in 2015, after noticing a gap in the market for an honest, efficient and reliable dairy services provider that farmers knew they could always rely on. We started the business from our garage in Dennington, three days after we got married. We both worked two jobs until the business got moving – Damian worked in the business on the tools during the day, and drove a tractor of an evening. Gemma worked as a personal trainer/gym supervisor and did all the marketing/branding for the business, and we both milked cows on the weekend to stay afloat. We were lucky to secure a new build for The Midfield Group as our first project, and it all snowballed from there. As time went on, the inclusion of new staff, the acquisition of Lely Centre SW in 2018, our own shed in 2019 all brings us to where we are today, as an award winning and internationally recognised dairy services company servicing over 500 active clients and largest Waikato dealership in Australia. It is important to us that we never forget our mission, where we have come from and why we started – to provide a quality, hard-working, honest and reliable service that our clients, dairy farmers can rely on. These values are reflected in our work, and our irreplaceable team. Damian and Gemma Loomans

Our chemical truck did her biggest day to date yesterday, 13 hours delivering 22 pods - with these ones off to our friends at the Midfield Group, and other clients around the Hawkesdale, Woolsthorpe, Koroit area, and then down to Simpson to Colac🐮

Our driving mission has remained the same since we first started SWDS - provide a service that our clients can rely on, that is second to none.

Our hygiene division has been led by Xavier and his team for several years now and includes:

-free on farm delivery with crane truck, removing the need for our clients to wait for us with a tractor to lift off pods.

-in house hygiene specialists with our own line cameras and chemical testing equipment, which is backed up by our dairy services technicians. Doing all of this in-house allows us to control the service schedule, the quality, and the team that are visiting your farm. We don’t wait for reps, we are the reps.

Why do people choose SWDS?
We do it right, the first time. Every time.

Utilising existing infrastructure for robotic milking technology is becoming increasingly popular, and can be a cost effective way to convert to robotic tech when done well - which is why we got the call for this project.

Our team are polishing off this herringbone conversion, with two Lely A5 milking robots being installed in Roslynmead, victoria.

Why do people choose swds? Because we do it right, the first time.

To talk about how robots can work for you, give us a call 1300 00 7937 🐮

We quietly ticked over 11 years in February, and recently had the pleasure of attending the Waikato Milking Systems conference for another year, to get together with our international peers and celebrate achievements, collaborate on ideas and move forward as colleagues - in different countries, but with the same goal. Providing our clients with a reliable, premium service that they know they can rely on.

It isn’t just a mission statement we say, it is how our entire team operate, and is reflected in the reputation we have built - as the leaders in milking technology installations. To see our family owned and ran operation turning over the same numbers as the European continent, and making up more than 90% of Australian MM installations, will always be wild to us and would not be possible without the epic people within SWDS; many of whom have been with us from the beginning.

Throughout the years, we have been approached by almost all competing conventional machine brands (some several times 😝) but our allegiance is, and always will be with Waikato.

For our farmers?
This means they know that what isn’t made right in our Allansford factory, is made a 3 hour plane trip away in NZ. Unlike many other brands, our equipment isn’t made in factories in China or being shipped from Europe - its made by SWDS fabricators in Allansford, and kiwi hands in the North Island with quality control and reliability at the forefront. The people designing the equipment, are in the same place as the people building the equipment without language, time or manufacturing availability barriers. It also means we aren’t waiting days or weeks for sea freight. If we urgently need something from Waikato, it can be here within a day or two. Which is a major reason why many people do move across to us from other competitors.

For us?
The company culture aligns directly with ours. Providing a premium, cost effective, reliable and honest service our clients can rely on, and a high performance, inclusive environment where accountability and teamwork are at the forefront of everything we do.

To Waikato, thanks for backing us when we were a four man team working out of a storage shed in Warrnambool.

To our team, thank you for taking a chance on us, and growing with us.

To all of our clients, thank you for choosing SWDS.

Dairy Modernisation
20 unit double up herringbone (40 units in total)

📍 Naroghid, Victoria

We want to wish a warm welcome to our clients, who are relocating home after a long stint of farming in NSW. It’s always great to see people returning home to our district once again.

The new dairy utilises the existing site and shedding, with the addition of new bum rails, a-frames and a pit extension to allow for bigger cows.

Fresh milk harvesting technology includes:

-40 units

-Drop down jetter system. Unique to our technology as a standard feature, the spring loaded jetters drop down from overhead to approximately chest height, creating a superior milking experience by removing the constant need to bend forward and removing back/shoulder strain.

-Waikato ECR-s cup removers.

-SmartPulse, ultra quiet pulsation.

-SmartWash, automatic wash system with SWDS hygiene system. Washes the dairy with a press of a button, no manual handling of chemical or labour required.

Why SWDS? It was an easy decision - the people, the team, the quality and the support.

Welcome home Greg and Sue-Ellen ❤️

Our team is made up of some pretty incredible people, but did you know nearly 30% of them started their life in another country? In fact, at one stage in the early days nearly our entire team was made up with kiwis.. and two Englishmen!

Some of us moved over here for sport, for work, for farming, for opportunities - all at different ages and stages, but we are all proud to call Australia home 🇦🇺

Happy Australia Day 🦘

Over the past few months we have had some new faces join the swds family, and it’s time we introduced them - although some will be very familiar already!

Chris joins our dairy services installation team. He is a qualified welder, and has spent the last several years as a shed builder prior to joining us full time so may be a familiar face to many of you already. We have worked on many of the same projects together prior to Chris joining the team.

Adam joins our dairy services team, predominantly working with robotics. Adam is a qualified mechanic and certified robotic technician, and prior to joining our team worked for Lely HQ so is heavily experienced in all things robotics.

Paul is an experienced dairy technician and qualified boilermaker, who initially joined us as a dairy technician but quickly developed an interest in our hygiene division. He splits his time between dairy services, and in the crane truck delivering chemicals and farm supplies across the SW area alongside Xavier and Luke.

Welcome aboard lads!

One of the key things that sets us apart, is the amount of local, in house support you get when you choose to build with Southwest.

Building a new dairy is a huge investment, and it’s fantastic when it’s shiny and new - but often what matters more, is when it’s 3am on a Sunday and you break down, your dairy tech answers their phone and can help get you milking again as swiftly as possible.

🐮 With Southwest, your dairy is designed by our director - who is also a qualified fabricator, project manager, and grew up milking cows. Not a suit that learnt farming from a book, someone who understands dairy and milking machines from the inside out.

🐮 Your dairy is installed by our own fabricators/boilermakers/dairy technicians. The benefit of this, is your dairy is built and designed by the same people that will be servicing it for years to come. We don’t fly in an installation team that leave upon commissioning, we are here. Answering your calls and keeping you milking, 365 days a year.

🐮 Your stainless components are manufactured in our factory, by our in house stainless steel fabricators. Allowing us to control quality, timelines and significantly save on your bottom line. Again no outsourcing, no worries.

🐮 For dairy hygiene, we have a dedicated full time hygiene team that have one goal - to keep you in premium milk.

We have a stacked team, with the sole goal remaining the same since we started in 2015. To provide a premium, efficient and professional service our clients know they can count on, 365 days per year.

Do it best. Do it with swds.
