Have you seen Lely's new video series hosted by Lachie Barns?

In the first episode of 'Talking Sh*ds', Lachie catches up with Alistair Gibson on his farm in Nanneella, Northern Vic, where his family has been dairying since 1950. When the challenges of relying on labour for milking threatened the farm's future, Alistair did the maths and made the move to robots.

"Production's nuts, it jumped up by a third in the first 12 months. We've probably gone from a seven and a half thousand litre herd to a ten and a half thousand litre herd.

"With your conventional set-up you can go and milk your cows three times a day but then that involves more and more labour. Whereas the robots they'll milk a fresh cow three and a half times a day and no one's there to see it."

Shining a light on the future of rural livestock vet care 🌟

Fantastic to see Dr Becky Dickinson representing Victoria as a national finalist at the AgriFutures Rural Women's Awards last week, recognising the important work that she is doing through Veterinary Support Services.

Dr Becky founded VSS to provide much-needed support to graduate and early-career vets working in regional areas. Delivering scholarship programs, practical education, mentoring and networking opportunities to help them build and sustain a career in rural practice, while advocating for further support for young regional vets.

This video shares more about the work and impact of VSS, and also features a familiar face in Lely robotic dairy farmer Luke Wallace!

Lely robot farmers from around the world have descended on Poland this week for Lely's 2026 Red Cow event, bringing together 'XL' farms running eight or more Astronaut milking robots.

Among them are Lely Gippsland customers Lisa and Peter Vening from Hedley, who are enjoying taking part in farm visits, workshops and conversations about operating robotic dairies at scale.

The Venings installed their first Lely Astronaut robots in 2023 and added another two earlier this year. Along the way, they also became the first farm in Australia to install the Lely Discovery C2 automatic manure collector.

The family has always been keen to continue looking ahead and learning how farmers around the world are approaching automation, and the Red Cow event is a great opportunity to do just that.

Here's a few snaps from Poland so far!
