The steady expansion of the Drake Trailers portfolio over the last half-decade has prompted the company to relaunch as The Drake Group this year, bringing a number of brands under the one banner. Over the years, its search for improvements has found the company both looking internally and externally, bringing in knowledge from a number of experts in specialist markets to bolster its own. Now, the

company has brought the Drake Trailers, O’Phee Trailers, Drake Collectables, BoXLoader, Swinglift, Cometto and Sunseeker East Coast Australia brands under the one banner, launching as The Drake Group in 2017.

The Drake Group featured in The Australian today, highlighting a growing issue facing our industry.

Apprenticeship numbers are falling, with manufacturing commencements down significantly over the past 12 months - just as demand for skilled trades continues to rise.

At the same time, rising costs and recent government cuts to apprenticeship wage subsidies are only adding further pressure. For businesses with more than 200 employees, those incentives have been removed altogether.

At The Drake Group, we currently have 47 apprentices in our business. With these changes, we’re expecting to wear over $200K in lost support - a real impact on companies actively investing in training the next generation.

We’ll continue to back apprentices, because our industry depends on it, but it’s clear the broader system is heading in the wrong direction.

Their Kenworth W‑Model, bought brand new in ’87. Worked hard until 2014, then fully restored back to its glory — only comes out for the big moments. And this was one of them.

They weren’t wrong… it looks the part hooked up to the new float 🔥

Sold off in the ‘90s… but never forgotten.
