Meet Lachy 🔧
Lachy recently joined the team as one of our new apprentices and is already getting stuck into life in the workshop. After seeing others working in the trade, he thought it looked like something that could really interest him, so he decided to give it a go and start his apprenticeship.

This year, Lachy is most excited about building his skills and gaining more hands-on experience. In particular, he’s looking forward to learning MIG and TIG welding, as well as getting involved in more fabrication work and building things from the ground up.

One of Lachy’s main goals for the year is to successfully get through his first year of TAFE while continuing to develop his practical skills on the job. Like every apprentice, it’s a big year of learning, and he’s keen to take in as much as he can.

Looking further ahead, Lachy hopes that in five years he’ll have completed his trade and be fully qualified. He’s also interested in the possibility of working overseas, using the skills he’s learning now to explore opportunities around the world.

It’s great to see the next generation coming through the trade, and we’re proud to support Lachy as he begins his career in welding and metal fabrication.

Meet Joe, who’s now completed his apprenticeship with Roddy Engineering! 😀

Joe chose an apprenticeship with a clear goal in mind, building a steady, long-term career in the trade. Through his apprenticeship, he’s put in the work, developed his skills on the job, and reached a major milestone by officially completing his qualification.

For Joe, finishing his apprenticeship is a proud moment and a testament to the effort and commitment he’s shown throughout his training.

Looking ahead, Joe’s focus is on continuing to improve, being the best tradesman he can be, and potentially stepping into a supervisor role in the future.

His advice for anyone considering an apprenticeship is to go for it. It might be a lot of work, but Joe says it’s worth it in the long run.

We’re proud to have Joe as part of the Roddy Engineering team and excited to see where his career takes him 👨‍🏭

Meet Lachlan, who’s now completed his apprenticeship with Roddy Engineering 👏

After finishing school, Lachlan knew university wasn’t the path for him, so he chose an apprenticeship based on what he genuinely enjoyed at school, a decision that led to a hands-on career path where effort, focus and pride in workmanship matter.

One of Lachlan’s proudest achievements is completing his apprenticeship despite facing some major personal setbacks along the way. He’s incredibly grateful for the patience and support shown by the Roddy Engineering team throughout his journey.

Along the way, Lachlan says he’s learnt the importance of always having your head in the game and not rushing a job, because when you take your time, the quality really shows.

Looking ahead, Lachlan's goal is to continue developing his skills and progress into a supervisor role in the future.

His advice for anyone considering an apprenticeship? Be ready to work hard, it’s a very hands-on career, but an extremely rewarding one.

We’re proud to have Lachlan as part of the Roddy Engineering team and are very excited to see what’s ahead for him👨‍🏭👏

Big congratulations to Callum on officially becoming a tradesman 👏
Cal chose an apprenticeship after discovering a strong interest in metalwork and wanting to turn that passion into a career. Along the way, he quickly learnt that the trade involved much more than he originally expected, a challenge he embraced head-on. His dedication paid off, with Cal finishing his TAFE early, a moment he says is one of his proudest achievements.

Cal says the journey has shown him the importance of staying switched on and putting in the effort every day, but believes it’s a great trade and a rewarding career path.

Looking ahead, Cal’s goal is to continue his career with Roddy Engineering and work towards becoming a site manager or supervisor in the future.

We’re proud to have Cal as part of the team and can’t wait to see what’s next 👨‍🏭👏

2026 has been a milestone year already, with several of our apprentices officially becoming qualified tradesmen!

Meet Cam, who’s now completed his apprenticeship with Roddy Engineering 👏

After finishing school, Cam was looking for a stable, long-term career and knew welding was the path he wanted to take. Through his apprenticeship, he’s built strong technical skills and gained real on-site experience, even completing his TAFE early, which he says is one of his proudest achievements.

Cam says finishing his apprenticeship feels really good and credits the team around him for making the journey such a positive one. What he’s enjoyed most is the culture at Roddy’s and the support from his work mates, which helped him grow both professionally and personally.

Looking ahead, Cam’s career goal is to continue developing his skills and work towards becoming a site supervisor in the future.

His advice for anyone considering an apprenticeship in metal fabrication?
“Go for it.”

We’re proud to have Cam as part of the team and excited to see what’s next 👨‍🏭
