I recently received a very supportive email from Justin from MAST regarding my and other regional slipways in Tasmania.

Copy of email:
Thanks for your email below outlining your concerns about the future of the Triabunna slipway.
MAST agrees that regional slipways around Tasmania provide refuge for damaged vessels and also limit the requirement to travel long distances, often outside sheltered waters in both emergencies and for routine maintenance. As well as the vessels that are berthed at Triabunna, the east coast is very busy with vessels cruising around Maria Island and Schouten Island, and the Triabunna slipway, as well as the private Coles Bay slipway provide a safety net in event of an incident. There have been a number of incidents in recent years that have required emergency slipping, the most recent that comes to mind is the Riviera 40 that went aground in Encampment Cove, Maria Island and, coincidently, another Riviera 40 several years earlier that suffered the same fate and was required to be slipped at Triabunna, not only for repair, but to assess damage and to check for/stop water ingress. I am sure there are numerous others that I am unaware of.

The ongoing future of the Triabunna slipway and others like it around the Tasmanian coastline provide a critical contribution to boating safety.

The Jamieson Bay has come down from StHelens for a slipping. An impressive little steel boat, very well constructed and maintained.

Fernanda on the slip for the first time.

One of the biggest boats I slip, Offshore 48. Not the heaviest but a fair chunk of boat.
