BDR Stainless completed a challenging Design & Construct (D&C) project for a potable water reservoir, showcasing our capability to integrate civil, mechanical, and structural disciplines in a highly sensitive environment.

Scope of Works included:
🔹 Construction of three new FRP civil support plinths
🔹 Installation of a free-issued blower unit
🔹 Design, fabrication & installation of secure blower/pump cages
🔹 DN600 aeration pipework from blower to roof vent, with all pipe supports
🔹 Connection to existing underground outlet pipework to supply a spray line with three nozzles
🔹 Roof-mounted walkway for safe maintenance access

Key Challenges:
The reservoir remained live, supplying potable water to residents. This demanded strict controls and innovative methodologies, including cutting into live roof sheeting without compromising water quality.
Inaccurate as-constructed drawings revealed unexpected underground obstructions. These were resolved through rapid decision-making with the client, ensuring milestones stayed on track.
Restricted access and the presence of live assets required detailed pre-planning and skilled trades to safely execute high-risk works.
The proximity to residential areas meant proactive communication and community engagement were critical to minimising impact.

Outcomes: The project was delivered safely, on time, and to design intent — reinforcing BDR’s reputation for handling complex, multi-disciplinary D&C projects. We are proud to have enhanced both the operational performance and safety of this critical water infrastructure asset.

A huge thank you to the team at BDR Stainless for their excellent work in making this project a success.

(Belated) Celebrating 5 Years of Geoff – BDM at BDR Stainless!

We might be a few weeks late to post this (the days really do fly by at BDR!), but there’s no way we were going to let this milestone pass quietly...

Geoff has officially ticked over 5 years as our Business Development Manager — and what an incredible contribution he’s made in that time.

With a strong background across Road and Rail Infrastructure, Mining, and Water and Wastewater Treatment, Geoff brought deep industry experience and a calm, measured approach that’s been invaluable to our clients and internal team alike.

From the start, Geoff was drawn to BDR’s culture:

“BDR stood out to me as a family business built on genuine family values, where success is shared and driven by the strength of the team.”

As BDM, Geoff plays a key role in shaping the relationships, trust, and long-term partnerships that underpin what we do. He’s not just about business — he’s about people, purpose, and delivering infrastructure that genuinely matters.

“I’m excited by the diversity of projects at BDR — each one playing a vital role in delivering critical infrastructure that really matters.”

And when asked what he hopes to achieve going forward, he kept it real:

“My goal is for every day to be safe, mentally rewarding, and meaningful — ultimately retirement.”

That’s the kind of perspective we can all respect.

Geoff — thank you for five years of leadership, loyalty, and steady guidance. You’ve been a huge part of BDR’s growth, and we’re lucky to have you as a key part of our journey.

Here’s to what’s next. (And yes, we’ll try to be more punctual on your 10-year post!)

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT – Food & Beverage Pipe Rack Installation

BDR Stainless was proud to be engaged for the supply, fabrication, and installation of galvanised and stainless steel pipe rack systems for a new food and beverage manufacturing facility.

Our scope included detailed drafting, precision fabrication, logistics, and on-site installation of large structural gantries designed to support critical process piping—vital to the operation of the plant.

Key Challenges & Solutions:

Tight Timelines

Time was of the essence. We developed a highly detailed ex*****on plan and deployed an experienced crew to reduce on-site time. As a result, we completed our scope ahead of schedule, enabling early commencement of piping installation.

Confined Space & Low Roof Clearance

The installation was carried out within a restricted indoor area, where standard lifting methods weren’t viable. Our team utilised advanced lifting techniques and specialised equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and damage-free installation.

Working at Height

With all works taking place over 5 metres above ground, safety was paramount. Our team operated under strict protocols, supported by certifications in Safe Working at Heights and Elevated Work Platform (EWP) use. Dedicated spotters provided continuous monitoring for safe ex*****on.

Outcome:

Delivered ahead of program

Zero safety incidents

Seamless integration with ongoing site works

A durable, hygienic structural solution tailored to the food industry

This project is a great example of how BDR Stainless tackles complex installations under pressure—with precision, planning, and a safety-first mindset.

This marks the official start of an exciting new project for BDR STAINLESS

The first batch of cast-in spools will land on-site and will be installed as part of the upcoming civil works. This is just the beginning of a large-scale commitment involving a huge collaborative effort from our team — from sales through to design, fabrication, and installation.

What are cast-in spools?

Cast-in spools are pre-fabricated piping assemblies that are embedded into concrete during construction. They're designed to provide robust, corrosion-resistant connections between below-ground infrastructure and above-ground pipework. By being “cast-in” during early stages of construction, they ensure seamless integration with structural works and reduce installation time and risk later in the project.

This delivery represents more than just steel — it's a symbol of the coordination, planning, and craftsmanship that goes into every project we deliver. It’s a proud milestone for the entire BDR team and a reminder of what we’re capable of when we bring our people and processes together.

With a busy schedule ahead, we’re ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work. A huge thanks to everyone across the business who’s played a part so far. More updates to come — this is only the beginning.

BDR Stainless was engaged to deliver a complete Design and Construct package incorporating civil, mechanical, and structural elements for a new personnel access system and scour point overflow catchment solution along the S1 pipeline, located airside at Brisbane International Airport.

Prior to BDR’s involvement, the existing scour points were unsafe to access or operate, posing serious risks to critical infrastructure. BDR’s scope addressed these challenges through a purpose-built, engineered solution that significantly enhanced safety and compliance.

To achieve high-precision installation within a restricted, operational airside environment, BDR utilised advanced 3D scanning for design modelling and off-site fabrication. This ensured millimetre-accurate alignment, enabling first-time installation with minimal error, delivering the project on time and under budget.

Scope of Works:

Design, fabrication, and installation of an aluminium pedestrian access system at eastern and western pipeline entries.

Design and installation of new scour overflow pipework directing discharge to a purpose-built catchment tank.

Challenges Overcome:

Strict airside security and logistical constraints demanded detailed coordination with Brisbane Airport Corporation.

Design limitations—including height restrictions and minimal available space—required innovative, integrated solutions such as shared structural supports to minimise ground penetrations.

Works occurred near live assets in confined areas, necessitating robust mitigation strategies to avoid service disruption.

A full-time licensed fauna handler was engaged to protect personnel from local venomous wildlife.

Outcome:
BDR delivered the project with zero defects or non-conformances. The completed solution ensures long-term operational safety, reliability, and full compliance with BAC regulations and Australian Standards.

Congratulations to the BDR Stainless team on successfully delivering a critical recovery project under high-stakes conditions!

When the Thermal Hydrolysis Process (THP) system at a major sewage treatment facility in Southeast Queensland suffered a serious mechanical breakdown, it threatened to disrupt the region’s biosolids processing right before the peak winter load period. With no predefined repair scope and system-critical infrastructure offline, the principal contractor turned to BDR Stainless for a rapid, expert response—and the team delivered.

From day one, the BDR crew took ownership of the full process: inspecting pressure vessels and associated systems, diagnosing the root cause, and engineering a robust path to recovery. In close consultation with the client and OEM documentation, the team developed a repair plan tailored to the system’s needs. Our trusted network of mechanical engineers supported this with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess component stress and fatigue.

BDR's technical team carried out the mechanical overhaul—restoring pressure vessels, valves, and key process pipework—while also implementing design improvements to strengthen system resilience. QA documentation and commissioning support were provided to ensure a safe and compliant return to service.

Despite major challenges, including urgent time constraints, strict safety compliance, and the system’s high operational impact, the project was delivered on time, within budget, and without incident.

A huge well done to everyone involved! Your work enabled full THP system reinstatement ahead of the winter period and delivered long-term improvements for our client. This project is a standout example of BDR Stainless’ capabilities in urgent failure response, multi-disciplinary engineering, and end-to-end ex*****on.
