Use this as your reminder to step away for five minutes and enjoy a great coffee.

In this video, we are using an E61 Group Head Thermometer. This tool checks temperature at the group head, providing greater insight into your espresso machine’s performance and helping achieve more consistent extractions for a particular coffee blend.

Of course, temperature is only one part of the equation. Coffee freshness, grinder performance, grind setting, dose, distribution, barista technique and machine maintenance all play an important role in achieving consistency and great-tasting espresso.

How to make E61 group head 3-way solenoid valves last longer.

I learnt this little trick back in the early 2000s while working on a very old Wega espresso machine. Despite its age, the original 3-way solenoid valve was still operating perfectly. When I pulled it apart, I noticed it had been lightly coated with silicone.

I made a mental note at the time and later incorporated the same approach into the espressoDECK build process.
