SKF Lubrication

SKF Lubrication Lubrication Lifetime Solutions Across many industries, businesses face ongoing challenges that affect operational efficiency, productivity, and profitability.

One of the most critical yet often underestimated factors is effective machine lubrication. Proper lubrication of bearings, chains, and other moving components is essential for smooth operation, equipment longevity, and reliability—especially under harsh environmental conditions that place constant stress on machinery. While lubricants typically represent only 1–3% of maintenance budgets, poor lub

rication practices can influence up to 40–60% of total maintenance costs, leading to increased downtime, higher repair expenses, and safety risks. By minimising friction and wear, effective lubrication protects critical assets, extends machine life, improves availability, and ultimately drives higher productivity and cost efficiency.

TBT to an inspiring RecondOil journey across Latin America.
Last week, both in Santiago, Chile and Rosario, Argentina, SKF Lubrication brought together selected distributors from across Latin America for a RecondOil summit focused on the future of oil reconditioning.

From Chile to Argentina, the event created a space to exchange expertise, explore new opportunities, and strengthen collaboration across the region. With global contributions from Aldara Naveira Suarez, Tommi Pitkäaho and Fernando Gonzalez, the discussions focused on: RecondOil technology and its role in extending oil life - New business opportunities linked to circular lubrication solutions - More efficient and sustainable approaches to oil management on site.

More than an event, it was a practical step in supporting our partners on their journey towards circular lubrication. RecondOil represents a different way to manage oil. It reduces waste, improves efficiency, and creates long-term value.

A quick question: what if the problem isn’t the bearing, but how it is lubricated?

This was exactly the case at a leading steel plant in India, where repeated downtime in continuous casting was becoming a concern. Instead of focusing only on the component, the team looked deeper into the lubrication process.

Hear from Shankar Nunna, Factory Manager Lubrication, India, as he shares how the SKF Lubrication team, working closely together on site, identified lubrication practices as a key factor affecting performance: Nearly 1/3 of failures were due to poor lubrication practices

The fix? Switching to an Air Oil lubrication system

The result:
- More reliable bearing performance through controlled lubrication
- Reduced grease usage and cleaner operating conditions
- Better protection in a challenging environment
- More stable operation in continuous casting

A practical example of how collaboration at the site level can turn lubrication into a performance advantage.

Heat should stay in the furnace, not on your maintenance team.

Steel and metal plants are built to operate under extreme conditions. Maintenance routines should not require people to work next to them.

High temperatures, contamination, difficult access points and continuous operation make lubrication both critical and complex.

Key risks include:
- Exposure to high-temperature zones
- Slips and falls near moving equipment
- Heat stress during manual lubrication
- Inconsistent lubrication intervals
- Unplanned maintenance interventions

With Lincoln automatic lubrication systems including single-line, dual-line and progressive systems, lubrication takes place while machines are running.

This reduces the need for manual intervention in hazardous areas and supports safer working conditions.
- Helps reduce exposure to high risk environments
- Delivers consistent and precise lubrication
- Supports reliability and lowers total cost of ownership

Steel operations will always be demanding. Lubrication should support both safety and uptime, without adding risk to the people who keep plants running.

Steel and metal plants operate under extreme conditions where reliability is critical, and downtime is costly.

High temperatures, heavy loads and continuous processes require lubrication strategies that support reliable operations and safer maintenance practices.

When lubrication is managed as a system rather than a set of isolated tasks, it becomes a strategic contributor to plant performance. By combining professional manual lubrication, automatic lubrication systems and circulating lubrication solutions, metal producers can improve consistency, reduce manual intervention and support long‑term equipment reliability.

SKF Lubrication Lifetime Solutions brings these elements together into an end‑to‑end approach, supporting metals customers from system design and installation through to operation and optimisation.

See in the carousel how an integrated lubrication strategy supports uptime, safety and efficiency across metal production.

Agricultural machines operate in demanding conditions, and many rely on numerous lubrication points to run reliably.

Lubrication needs can vary widely across different equipment. While tractors, implements, and harvesters all require regular attention, sprayers and slurry tankers often work in especially harsh environments where moisture, dust and aggressive fertilisers increase the risk of wear.

Keeping every lubrication point serviced manually can be challenging, particularly during busy periods. Missed or inconsistent lubrication can quickly lead to accelerated wear and unplanned downtime.

That is why lubrication management is becoming an increasingly important part of agricultural machinery strategies. By ensuring critical points receive the right amount of lubricant at the right time, operators can better protect equipment and support reliable performance throughout the season.

Simplifying maintenance where it matters most

In high‑wear applications such as sprayers and fertiliser equipment, maintenance is not only about uptime. It is also about keeping lubrication clean, safe and efficient in environments exposed to moisture, chemicals and aggressive fertilisers.

With solutions such as Alemite fluid‑handling pumps and Mityvac vacuum pumps and tools, operators can bring more control and consistency to daily maintenance routines. This helps reduce contamination risks and supports proper handling of lubricants and fluids during busy working periods.

The impact is clear:

• Cleaner and safer maintenance operations
• More efficient lubrication management
• Reduced equipment wear in chemically demanding environments
• Greater reliability during critical working windows

When every hour in the field counts, having the right maintenance tools in place helps keep equipment performing as expected throughout the season.

This is one way SKF Lubrication supports smarter and more efficient agricultural operations.

Proud to see RecondOil recognised with an Innovation Award at the 2025 Motion RISE Supplier Awards, hosted by Motion Asia Pacific.

This recognition reflects the growing importance of circular oil regeneration in helping industry reduce waste, extend oil life and build more resilient operations.

By treating oil as a reusable asset rather than a consumable, RecondOil supports a more sustainable and cost‑efficient approach to lubrication.

Well done to the SKF Lubrication Australia team and our partners for contributing to an innovation that is making a real difference, locally and globally.

OEM‑ready lubrication solutions for agriculture

Agricultural OEMs may offer SKF Lincoln lubrication systems as standard or optional equipment. Where machines have unique space or application constraints, authorised distributors can also custom design and install systems to meet real‑world operating demands.

A recent example is an AECP (Automatic Electric Cartridge Pump) installation on a Manitou 3300V skid steer, a compact machine widely used in agricultural material handling.

Because installation space was limited, a traditional lubrication pump was not suitable. Working together, SKF and an authorised distributor installed a compact AECP unit with a progressive lubrication setup. The system supplies lubricant to 12 lubrication points while the machine is operating.

The result is reliable and consistent lubrication in a tight footprint. This helps reduce manual maintenance and supports better machine care in dusty agricultural environments.

This is a good example of how OEM‑compatible SKF Lincoln solutions, combined with distributor expertise, help support equipment reliability in day‑to‑day agricultural operations.

Agricultural machines are built to operate in demanding conditions, and many rely on a surprisingly large number of lubrication points to function reliably.

Lubrication needs can vary widely depending on the equipment in use. Tractors, implements, and harvesters all require regular attention, while balers, sprayers and slurry tankers often operate in especially harsh environments where moisture, dust and aggressive chemicals increase the risk of wear.
