For 7 years, the owner of this home had been sliding 12 metres of glass by hand, around 1.2 tonnes of it.

We retrofitted a motor and intergrated AIRLA automation to take that weight off them. Now they can open up their indoor/outdoor space without breaking a sweat.

The builder came to us with a problem

I have this 200kg window that is going to be a pain to operate for the owners and also because it's over the kitchen sink it's going to be hard to reach out and move 200kg.

Automation was the solution.

Rose Bay retrofit.

These doors had been part of the home for years before the owners decided to automate them. The house was occupied throughout, so our installers fitted the AIRLA system around the family's day-to-day routine, working with doors and finishes that were never planned for automation. Now opening up the space is as simple as pressing a button.

Large glass doors often get harder to operate once you feel the actual weight of the finished panels.

We can usually retrofit automation onto an existing sliding or stacking door rather than needing a full replacement. Before we recommend a system, we look at the door configuration, panel weight, track condition, available mounting space and access for cabling.

The result is a door that actually gets used the way it was designed to. Not left shut because it's too heavy to bother with.

Get in touch with us, we can help make your project just as practicial as it is beautiful.

You don’t need a complete smart-home system to automate a large door.

Depending on the project, the door can be operated using a wall switch or remote control, or integrated into the home’s existing automation system.

What actually matters is getting the motor and control method right for the door's size, configuration and how it'll be used day to day.

We supply, install and commission the automation system around whatever opening the project calls for.

If this is something your project needs, let's chat!

Door automation works best when it's planned early.

On a recent Queensland project, we came in during the final stages of the build. The clients had large glass doors too heavy to operate comfortably.

Instead of a redesign, we retrofitted motors giving them back the indoor-outdoor space they'd actually planned for.

Early coordination is ideal. But even late in a build, it's worth asking what's still possible.

Large sliding doors are becoming a major feature in architectural homes, but as the panels become wider and heavier, they also become harder to use.

A sliding door looks incredible in the render. Then it's installed and it's not practical

We don't touch the door itself. We install motors and controls that make the feature of the project more practical. We work alongside everyone involved in the project so it's integrated properly.

Maleny - Bald K**b, Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

With its curved balconies, large glass openings and views across the surrounding landscape, this home has plenty of reasons to open the doors and spend time outside.

We came into the project during the final stages of the build, after the owners realised how much effort it took to open and close the large sliding doors. Once they discovered that automation could be retrofitted, we worked with the team to find a solution for the existing doors.

By this stage, the walls and ceilings were already sheeted, so mounting the motors and getting cabling where it needed to go took some working through.

Steve and Simone from SX Constructions helped bring it all together, with the builder developing the mounting structure for our motors. We worked alongside Brad from Vision Solutions on the existing doors and Jackson from Zenith Electrical to get the cabling to our motors and controls.

A big thank you to everyone involved. Adding automation this late in a build takes cooperation, and we really appreciated the team’s willingness to work through the details with us.

The owners can now open and close their doors comfortably and enjoy the connection between the home, terraces and landscape. With a setting like this, it would have been a shame for those openings to go unused simply because the doors were too heavy to move.
