Join us for an insightful online workshop exploring global opportunities in power system planning for Sri Lankan electrical engineers. As the global energy sector rapidly transitions toward renewable energy, power systems are facing new challenges in planning, operation, and asset management. This event will provide valuable insights into how engineers can adapt to these changes while building successful international careers.

The workshop will feature expert talks covering key topics such as the challenges of integrating renewable energy into modern grids, maintaining power system asset health in increasingly complex operating environments, and emerging global career pathways in power engineering. Participants will gain practical knowledge about how inverter-based renewable generation is transforming power systems and what it means for engineers working in planning and asset management.

Our featured speakers bring extensive academic and industry experience. Associate Professor Chandima Ekanayake from The University of Queensland will discuss the evolving challenges in monitoring and managing power system assets in renewable-rich grids. Additionally, Eng. Sanjaya Ubesiri, Senior Power System Engineer at the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), will share insights on global career opportunities and the growing demand for expertise in renewable integration and power system planning.

This workshop is ideal for electrical engineers, power system professionals, and students who are interested in understanding the future of power systems and exploring international career pathways in the evolving energy landscape.

Date: 28 March 2026

๐ŸŽ‰ A Proud Moment for the Sri Lankan Community in Australia ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ

It is with immense pride that I share the wonderful news that Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah, Executive Member of the IESL NSW Chapter (2025โ€“2026), has been honoured as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).

Professor Ambikairajah has made outstanding contributions to higher education, research, electrical engineering, and technological innovation, while also playing a pivotal role in strengthening the Sri Lankan alumni and professional community in Australia.

A former Deputy Vice-Chancellor and long-serving Head of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at UNSW Sydney, Professor Ambikairajah has been recognised in the 2026 Australia Day Honours. Notably, he is the first Sri Lankan to hold senior leadership roles at UNSW, marking a historic milestone for our community.

This prestigious national recognition is a proud moment for the IESL NSW Chapter and the Sri Lankan community worldwide.

๐Ÿ‘ Heartfelt congratulations to Professor Ambikairajah on this well-deserved and inspiring honour!
