After a rapid, unscheduled disassembly of the original end plates, this 12A turbo rotary needed some love. What may seem like a reasonably simple job re-dowelling the housings and counter boring the plates is actually quite involved. With tolerances in the 0.02-0.03mm range and some odd sizing, a combination of precision bar stock, tooling, custom mandrels and adjustable reamers was required.

60k worth of tooling and the knowledge of how to use it. Just part of the reason why quality costs what it does.

This is a small example of precision versus accuracy. The former being the effort you make to be accurate. Also showing that quality digital calipers used with care can be very accurate. Many say they won't trust them below 0.1mm. I say they're ham fi**ed.

For those wondering the target size was 30.0mm over a length of 150mm. Measured variance in 3 spots was 0.003mm.
