Delighted to have been invited to attend the Lion H2 Energy's Hydrogen Information Day at the Port of Brisbane last Wednesday (5th February).
Lion H2 Energy is building a green hydrogen production and distribution / refuelling facility at the Port of Brisbane, and will be capable of producing some 300 tonnes of green hydrogen per annum.
As well as providing an update on the project, there was a number of OEM's of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles and power generators providing information and demonstrations of their products, as well as a couple of companies demonstrating their hydrogen for internal combustion engines (ICE) systems.
There was some discussion that while Australia has recently adopted a National Standard for Hydrogen Fuelled Vehicle Safety (ADR 110/00), each of the Australian States seem to have different requirements for the inspection and certification of on road vehicles converted to run on hydrogen as a dual fuel. This is on top of the regulations facing OEM manufacturers of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles and hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicles.
It's worth mentioning that there is no point in Corporations investing in the production of green hydrogen in Australia, with or without Government Funding, unless there are off-take customers / consumers of the hydrogen, such as companies like Globo Hydro Power.
There is a recognition that the world needs to reduce it's reliance on fossil fuels, particularly in automotive vehicles, however the alternatives are very few. Electric vehicles are one consideration, however they often have a long charging time, plus the battery only lasts 10 to 15 years then needs to be replaced (at a cost). Unless the electricity to charge the vehicle is from renewables, there is not much in the way of environmental saving.
I (and many others) see hydrogen as the fuel of choice in the future, particularly for the trucking industry, large bus fleet operators, power generation, mining operations, off-road plant, etc. Battery powered electric fuel cell might be fine for light vehicles, but the recharging time is not suitable for most long haul freight vehicles or large bus fleets, or remote locations.
Hydrogen options offer a viable alternative.
Globo Hydro Power can provide their proprietary GHP hydrogen fuel enhancement system to owners and operators, for use in existing in use engines (ICE's). By replacing a portion of the current diesel fuel used with hydrogen, this provides owners with considerable fuel cost savings, reduces carbon emissions by up to 50%, as well as having a cleaner engine.
The Globo Hydro Power Hydrogen Fuel Enhancement System is suitable for installation on any ICE, such as automotive vehicles (trucks, buses, fleet operators); diesel power generators; mining plant; farm equipment; off-road plant; marine/shipping; and diesel locomotive .
