⚡ Free electricity in Australia? Here’s what you need to know.

The Australian Government’s new Solar Sharer Offer (SSO) is designed to help households access free electricity during selected daytime periods, when solar generation is at its highest.

From 1 July 2026, eligible households in DMO-regulated areas will be able to opt in through participating retailers

The key details:

✅ 3 hours of free electricity during the middle of the day
✅ Available to eligible households with a SMART METER
✅ You do not need rooftop solar to participate
✅ Open to both homeowners and renters
✅ Opt-in only — you will not be automatically switched

For households, it could change how energy is used during the day.

For the industry, it highlights the growing importance of smart meters, battery storage and smarter energy management as Australia continues to adapt to high levels of solar generation.

At Master Instruments, we see this as another clear sign that the future of energy will be built around better timing, better monitoring and better storage.

Let's have a serious conversation about battery waste...

Every year, billions of disposable batteries end up in landfill, taking a toll not only on the environment, but on your wallet as well.

But there are cleaner options, like Eneloop rechargeable batteries. That offer a more sustainable alternative to disposable batteries, by delivering reliable power while helping reduce environmental impact.

Driven by Panasonic Australia commitment to reducing the environmental impact of battery production, Eneloop are rechargeable up to 2100 times, and come pre-charged from factory using solar generated power.

Why is this important?
It means 2000 disposable cells are being removed from the waste stream, and a significant saving in replacement costs associated with single use disposable batteries. Thus helping to reduce raw material consumption and packaging waste, as well as reducing costs and emissions associated with the transportation of the batteries during supply and replacement cycles.

Master Instruments is a proud member of the Battery Stewardship Council and advocate for the B-cycle recycling program. ♻️
