August is our indoor play month and with good reason.

The days are getting longer but it's still properly winter, and the after-school hours call for good indoor play options. The kind that hold children's attention without a screen, build something worthwhile, and give parents a genuine window of uninterrupted time.

This month we're highlighting everything in our indoor range and all the ways that indoor play builds the foundations for curious, capable children.

Because screens aren't the only option when it's 5pm and raining. There are much better ones. β˜”

What's your family's go-to for indoor play in August? We'd love to build a community list of ideas.

Learning to ride is a pretty big little milestone ❀️

Meet Huffy Grow Ride Move (GRM) β€” designed to help make those first rides feel steadier, simpler and more confidence-building for kids.

With a low centre of gravity and multiple ways to learn, kids can progress in the way that suits them best β€” whether that’s starting in balance-bike mode, using training wheels, or moving straight into pedalling.

It’s all about helping them find their balance, build confidence and enjoy the ride.

And yes… that moment when they finally take off on their own is still a bit emotional πŸ₯ΉπŸš²

Huffy is back in Australia, and pre-orders are now open at Plum Play.

It's Christmas in July. Plum Play is celebrating! πŸŽ„

Year after year, the trampoline tops the Christmas list. And year after year, the families who bought in July are very, very pleased with themselves.

There's a reason for the longer consideration time: a trampoline is a significant purchase. The right one depends on your space, the ages of your children, whether you're thinking in-ground or above-ground, and what safety features matter most to you.

The good news? All of that is very answerable.

Plum has sold over 3 million trampolines β€” which means we've seen every backyard, every age, every scenario. Our range runs from first jumps at 3 years old all the way through to adults who just need a good reason to get outside. And every single one is built to be the bounciest trampoline around.

December Christmas: beautiful, chaotic, gone by noon.

July Christmas: cold enough for a proper jumper, slow enough to actually plan.

We're celebrating Christmas in July this week because nothing else makes a kid's face do that thing quite like the right gift. The kind they actually play with.

Big or small. Simple or spectacular. The best gifts aren't forgotten by Boxing Day they're still being played with in February.

Go on. Start the list.

In defence of planning absolutely nothing. (Almost officially.) ✨

School holidays are nearly here. And before the instinct kicks in to fill every afternoon β€” activities, excursions, structured fun with something to show for it β€” can we make a tiny, wholehearted case for the unscheduled fortnight?

Because here's what actually happens when you leave a child with a dolls house and zero agenda: magic.

Absolute, chaotic, wonderful magic. Suddenly there's a whole neighbourhood happening on the lounge room floor. Characters with names, backstories, and surprisingly strong opinions about which bedroom is theirs.

Furniture rearranged seventeen times because the vibe wasn't quite right. A storyline that somehow involves a bakery, a mystery, and what appears to be a dragon β€” and nobody planned any of it. πŸ’›

That's not kids killing time. That's kids doing some of the most brilliant, creative, deeply valuable thinking of their entire day.

Boredom is just creativity warming up. And a dolls house? That's the spark.

Two weeks of unscheduled afternoons incoming. We reckon they'll be just fine. 🏑

What's your family's approach to school holiday time? We'd love to know.

There is a particular kind of absorbed quiet that descends over a house when a child has fully committed to their play kitchen. πŸ‘©β€πŸ³

Menus are being written. πŸ“ Complicated orders are being taken. Someone is being told their imaginary soup is not ready yet and they need to wait.

It is magnificent.

Our play kitchens and dolls houses are the kind of toys that make the winter June days feel genuinely fun - for children AND for parents. Open-ended, imaginative, and remarkably good at occupying small people for an impressive amount of time.

No batteries. No screen. Just the very good chaos of children inventing their own world.

What's currently on the menu at your house?

Warning: every kid who sees one will want one.

We're not saying the Green Machine causes chaos.

We're just saying that once one appears on a driveway, every child in a three-street radius suddenly needs to be somewhere in that direction.

Because here's the thing. The moment a kid climbs on and feels that first drift rear-wheel steering pulling them into a corner, low to the ground, sliding and carving like they own the place something clicks. This isn't just a ride. This is the ride.

Every path becomes a circuit. 🏁 Every driveway becomes a track. Every ride becomes a chance to hit that perfect slide and feel the kind of wild, wind-in-your-face freedom that makes afternoon feel infinite.

The Green Machine doesn't get ridden. It gets piloted - with genuine skill, genuine speed, and a look on their face that says they are absolutely, undeniably the main character right now.

Here's something we know from thirty years of watching children play: give a child a sandpit and stand back. πŸ•°οΈ

They'll build cities. They'll make rivers. They'll bury things and find them. They'll invent rules for games nobody else has ever played and enforce them with great seriousness.

Playing in the sand is quietly one of the most complete play experiences available to young children - it's sensory, creative, physical, and social all at once. And it works just as beautifully in June as it does in January. β˜€οΈ ❄️

As we continue to celebrate International Day of Play this week, we keep coming back to these images: kids with their hands in sand, completely absorbed, completely themselves.

That's play. And that's what this week is all about.

Today, 11 June, is International Day of Play.

The United Nations recognises today as a reminder that play is not optional for children - it is fundamental. It is how they learn, how they connect, how they make sense of the enormous world. πŸŒπŸ’š

We've been making outdoor play equipment for over thirty years. And the thing that has never changed in all that time is this: when you watch a child play; really play, without a screen, without an adult running the show; something genuinely wonderful happens.

Today we're not talking about products. We're just asking you to open the back door.

An hour outside. A play kitchen. A building project. Whatever play looks like in your home.

Share it with us using β€” we'll be reposting all day.

Happy International Day of Play, from all of us at Plum.
