We’re excited to welcome Eric Lei, who joins D-TAL as Traffic Manager, bringing over 8 years of experience in traffic management, constructability, and access planning across major road infrastructure, transport, and renewable energy projects throughout Australia and Macau.

Eric brings extensive expertise in traffic staging, Construction Traffic Management Plans (CTMPs), OSOM route assessments, heavy vehicle movements, and stakeholder coordination, supporting safe and efficient project delivery within complex, live traffic environments.

His diverse background spans major highway upgrades, mining infrastructure, wind farms, and solar developments, with a strong focus on developing practical traffic management solutions that minimise disruption and address construction constraints.

Road Safety Audits help identify design and operational risks early, while there is still time to make practical changes.

Road Safety Audits (RSAs) provide an independent review of the road environment to identify potential safety risks before they become operational issues.

Whether undertaken at concept design, detailed design, pre-opening or post-opening, an RSA helps project teams assess how the road will perform for all users — including motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, heavy vehicles, service vehicles and construction traffic.

A well-executed RSA considers critical road user safety factors such as:

· Sight distance and visibility
· Driver decision-making
· Turning movements and access
· Roadside hazards
· Signage and line marking
· Lighting
· Pedestrian and cyclist movements

Three major traffic changes. One live highway environment. Construction still had to keep moving.

For the Northern Connection – Stage 2C package on the Singleton Bypass, D-TAL developed the Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) design required to safely reconfigure the New England Highway while creating the space needed for major construction activities.

The stage required three significant traffic changes:
✔ Southbound traffic diverted onto the ultimate southbound exit ramp
✔ Northbound traffic shifted onto the existing southbound travel lane
✔ New England Highway–Magpie Street intersection reconfigured to suit the temporary traffic arrangement

D-TAL led the TTM design and engineering assessment, including:
✔ Temporary traffic staging, lane arrangements and traffic switch
✔ Temporary road geometry
✔ Magpie Street intersection reconfiguration and temporary signal (TCS) design
✔ Temporary barrier, crash cushion and work zone safety assessments
✔ Sight distance, temporary drainage, lane widening and swept path assessments
✔ OSOM vehicle movement reviews
✔ 2D and 3D design models, drawings, reports and Safety in Design documentation
✔ Road Safety Audits

Our solution created safe work areas required for pavement construction while maintaining traffic flow, freight access and network performance through a constrained live highway corridor.

This package demonstrates the importance of integrating traffic staging, constructability and detailed road design early in the process. In complex live-road environments, the staging strategy cannot simply show where traffic goes — it needs to be practical to construct, safe to operate and coordinated with the permanent works.

Delivering Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) staging solutions on a live, high-speed regional highway requires more than design documentation alone.

Supporting ACCIONA on the Mudies Creek Flood Mitigation Works along the Golden Highway, D-TAL was engaged to provide traffic planning and design services, with our role expanding as construction progressed and site requirements evolved.

D-TAL delivered an integrated traffic engineering solution, including traffic staging, TMPs, Road Safety Audits, Safety in Design, signage and line marking, constructability, civil design, stakeholder coordination and construction-phase support.

Across the project, D-TAL supported:
✔ Construction staging and traffic planning
✔ Ongoing TMP, TGS and VMS updates during live construction
✔ Civil design and constructability input
✔ Access, sight distance and turn path assessments

Delivering Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) staging around an active interchange requires practical design, clear sequencing and close coordination with construction activities.

Supporting ACCIONA on the Putty Road Interchange, D-TAL was engaged to provide TTM and Road Design services for the Stage 1A works.

Our team developed temporary traffic arrangements to maintain safe vehicle movements along Putty Road while accommodating waterworks, utility construction and access to the work zone.

D-TAL’s scope of work covered:
✓ Temporary traffic staging and lane configuration design
✓ Strategic layout options for Putty Road and Waterworks Lane
✓ Construction access and work zone planning
✓ Turn path analysis for light and heavy vehicles
✓ Safe Intersection Sight Distance assessments

✓ Detailed CAD drawings for construction and TfNSW review

A great way to mark the near completion of a recent package of work with the John Holland Group.

To celebrate the milestone, Alistair Neale from D-TAL, together with Oliver Thacker from Conelex, joined the John Holland team at MANIAX Axe Throwing Brisbane for an evening of axe throwing, food and drinks.
