Residents make major strides in recycling through The Shire Return and Earn Depot
Thanks to the incredible support of the community, Sutherland locals have recycled an impressive 100 million bottles, cartons, and cans since the launch of The Shire Return and Earn Depot in August 2020
Returning containers at The Shire Return and Earn is, supporting the local community and environment by providing a bulk return solution for the Sutherland Shire. The Depot accepts bulk lots of containers including bulk bins, bales and even ute and truckloads.

Owner, Greg McAleer explains, “We’re proud to offer fast, friendly and efficient container returns to make it easy for Sutherland residents to cash in their eligible bottles and cans.”
“We are proud of the dedication and enthusiasm shown by locals in embracing The Shire Return and Earn Depot," said Mr McAleer. "Together, we've not only achieved significant environmental milestones but have also strengthened our community, demonstrating the strong impact collective action can have."
The environmental impact of recycling 100 million containers instead of producing new ones is staggering. Customers have contributed to:
Energy savings equivalent to powering 1,053 households for a year.
Water conservation equal to filling 235 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
Landfill reduction by avoiding 632 garbage trucks' worth of waste.
Carbon dioxide emissions reduction on par with taking 4,464 cars off the road for a year.
“Returning your containers through Return and Earn is a way to support your local community and make a positive impact. Locals can also donate their refund to one of over 300 donation partners listed on the Return and Earn app,” Mr McAleer added.
The Shire Return and Earn Depot is located at 52 Cawarra Rd, Caringbah. It is open from 7:30am – 4:30 pm Monday – Thursday, 7:30am – 4:00pm Friday and 7:00am -3:00pm Saturdays. We also provide the largest kerbside bin collection service at http://purplebins.com.au

This week saw us hit the 100,000,000 containers mark collected at The Shire Return and Earn, what a HUGE effort for everyone involved, thats 100 Million containers saved from Landfill. Keep up the good work.

We will be CLOSED This. Friday 18th April up to and Including Monday 21st April for Easter Holidays and Re-Open on Tuesday 22nd April, we will also be Closed Friday on 25th April for Anzac Day, Both depot and home collections will be effected.

We can't believe it, we did again! Yesterday, we hit an incredible milestone—a record-breaking 10.3 million containers returned through Return and Earn. 🙌 That’s our BIGGEST day EVER!
Thanks to YOU, here’s what we achieved together in just one day:
💸 $1+ million in refunds returned to the community
💧 61 million litres of water saved
⚡ 13,000+ GJ of energy conserved
🌱 618 tonnes of waste kept out of landfill

7 million containers in one day!!! Thanks to our wonderful customers, last Saturday, we helped to contribute to a whopping 7 million containers recycled through the Return and Earn network.
