The safe limit for welding fume dropped from 5 to 1 mg/m³ in January 2024, so a shed that was set up and fine before that could now be running at up to 5 times what's allowed. Welding fume is classed as causing cancer, and a fan in the doorway just moves it around the shed, which isn't the same as pulling it away from the torch before it reaches your face. If you know someone who welds in a shed, send this to them.

Somebody's lost another Saturday on the road to Murray Bridge.

It went missing somewhere between the b**r kit in one town and the yeast in another, and nobody noticed until the fermenter was still empty at four o'clock. I'd lose a Saturday that way too, so this is a missing poster and not a lecture.

The kit and the yeast are both in Strathalbyn, so your Saturday can stay home.

I'd be typing "why did nobody tell me" too, which is exactly why I'm telling you now.

Most first brews that taste funny went wrong before the yeast ever got a look in, because something that touched the wort wasn’t sanitised.

Get the cleaning right and a kit, a fermenter and a bit of patience will do the rest.
