Happy 1st Birthday to our Sunshine Coast office!
What a fantastic first year it’s been. Under the leadership of Matt Taylor, we are incredibly proud of what the Sunshine Coast team has achieved in such a short time.
The office has grown quickly, securing projects across all disciplines and sectors, while staying true to our strong team culture, values and quality service that have earned Burchills its reputation.
The team has laid a strong foundation for the future, and we are excited about the opportunities ahead as the office continues to grow.
A big thank you to our clients, industry partners and team members for your support in making our first year such a success.

Not every day starts at a desk.
Sometimes it involves getting in the water.
Our environmental team gets to work in some pretty incredible places, collecting information that helps inform how natural environments are managed into the future.
We are fortunate to work with organisations including Griffith University and the City of Gold Coast on projects that help improve our understanding of these environments and the role they play in our communities.
Definitely one of the more interesting ways to spend a day at work!

Our Water & Environment Manager, Sam, has been on the ground connecting with the local community as part of our Stormwater Master Plan project for Balonne Shire Council. 🤝

Talking through locals' experiences with flooding provided valuable context for our work and helped build a clearer picture of how water moves through the town during storm events. 🌧️🗺️

What a great afternoon at our Burchills Family Fun Day on Saturday! 🎉

A huge thank you to Dean and Emma for opening up their home and hosting us. There was plenty going on throughout the afternoon with laser tag, the petting zoo keeping the kids entertained, and the BBQ keeping everyone well fed.

It was great to step away from the office, catch up properly and spend some relaxed time together with colleagues, partners and families. Thanks to everyone who came along and helped make it such a fun day!

We are heartbroken to share that our friend and colleague, John Peace, passed away last week.

Above all, John was our friend. His unmistakable English wit and cheeky sense of humour brought warmth and laughter to the Burchills family. He was always generous with his time, ready to support, mentor and lend a hand. A passionate cricket fan, he especially loved the Ashes whenever England took on Australia, relishing the competitive spirit and good-natured banter that came with it. As a close-knit team, his loss has been profoundly felt by us all.

Professionally, John was an exceptional leader and a highly respected Principal Traffic Engineer. Since joining Burchills nearly four years ago as our Traffic Team Lead, he became an integral part of our business, building a high-performing traffic engineering team and strengthening our industry reputation. His knowledge, integrity and steady leadership left a lasting mark on our team and the work we do. He was deeply trusted by his clients and widely regarded by his peers.

We are also thinking of his many friends and former colleagues at Cardno who worked alongside him for many years before he joined us.

Our heartfelt condolences go to his wife Nicola and his son Will at this incredibly difficult time. We are keeping them close in our hearts.

Vale John. You will be greatly missed.

A major milestone has been reached for The Crossing, Sarina!

The DA documentation has now been lodged for a future neighbourhood of approximately 675 residential lots, mixed housing and commercial precincts.

Our team worked across a highly flood constrained site, providing:
💧Flood modelling
💧Stormwater management
💧Water and sewer network assessments
💧Fish passage and waterway investigations
💧Preliminary civil design.

With strong collaboration across the Burchills team, the project now moves into operational works and construction phases. Plenty of exciting work ahead for the growing Mackay region. 🌱🏠

We are thrilled to have been working with Mount Isa City Council on the Soldiers Hill Principal Cycle Network (PCN).

This 3.4km network will enhance connectivity between the Soldiers Hill community and the CBD, providing a safe alternative for cyclists and promoting active transport.

The PCN will not only improve safety by reducing exposure to high-traffic roads but also offer scenic views along the Leichhardt River, creating a more enjoyable cycling experience.

It’s great to be involved in a project that supports community wellbeing and connectivity, its also great to get out into Regional QLD!

We look forward to continuing our partnership with Mt Isa City Council on future community-focused projects.🚴‍♂️🌳
