At Kleinfelder, we recognise National Reconciliation Week as an important time to reflect on our shared history, build understanding, and strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme, “All In,” calls on all of us to actively contribute to reconciliation, through our actions, our partnerships, and our commitment to meaningful change. Across the country, Kleinfelder colleagues have been marking the week by attending and streaming local events, taking time to listen, learn, and engage with communities and perspectives that help shape a more inclusive future.

Together, we are committed to being All In, now and into the future.

Kleinfelder’s geotechnical engineering team recently supported a client in South Australia with a site with compressible soils and a high risk of differential settlement that made their proposed shallow footings design unfeasible.

Through detailed in‑situ testing, impact rolling assessment, and proof rolling, our team identified a targeted ground improvement solution, which combined impact rolling with localised soil excavation and replacement using engineered fill and stabilised sand. This approach allowed the ground conditions to be improved and validated for shallow foundations.

By enabling the use of shallow footings instead of piling, the project achieved significant cost savings and a more efficient construction outcome, without compromising performance.

Yet another example of Kleinfelder’s Bright People providing the Right Solutions to our clients, and how practical engineering judgement and site‑specific solutions can unlock value for our clients. Kleinfelder’s geotechnical engineering team’s paper will be featured in the 2026 Piling and Ground Improvement Conference’s Journal.

The paper presents a practical case study on impact rolling as a ground improvement technique under variable soil conditions, highlighting the technique’s effectiveness in granular soils, its limitations in cohesive materials, and the importance of verification testing and targeted remediation to enable the use of shallow foundations. The findings offer valuable insights for practitioners dealing with heterogeneous ground conditions on commercial development sites. A summary of the paper is available here https://www.kleinfelder.com.au/2026/05/17/kleinfelders-geotechnical-engineering-teams-paper-featured-in-the-2026-piling-and-ground-improvement-conferences-journal/

If you’re attending the conference, connect with the paper’s authors Alireza and Phil to discuss how Kleinfelder continues to deliver practical, cost-effective geotechnical solutions across complex ground environments.

Kleinfelder’s experienced ecologists assist our clients in all aspects of environmental offsets – from assessing and determining suitable offsets using biometrics to government liaison and negotiation. Their experience aids in streamlining the process through the various regulatory bodies and adhering with policy and legislation.

This image not only captures our ecologist Belinda in her happy place - out in the field, but demonstrates the passion, knowledge, and experience our ecologists bring whilst conducting biodiversity offset monitoring to gather the best data and thus achieve the right outcomes for our clients.

Kleinfelder Principal Engineer, Greg Lutton, will be representing us at the South Australia Major Projects Conference on 4-5 May.

As Area Manager of our team, Greg has been at the forefront of Kleinfelder’s contributions to some of the state’s largest and most complex projects, including the remediation of the Port Stanvac refinery site, the provision of geotechnical and contaminated land expertise for the Torrens to Darlington and Northern Water projects, and offering technical support to numerous renewable energy project developments across the State.

If you’re attending, be sure to connect with Greg, online or in person, to hear how our team of environmental and geotechnical professionals is helping shape the future of South Australia’s infrastructure and energy landscape, and discuss what they could do for you.

Looking forward to a great event and meaningful conversations!

Kleinfelder proudly acknowledges Principal Botanist, Fig Forest’s recently accepted, NSW and Federal, nomination to reclassify the square‑fruited ironbark (Eucalyptus tetrapleura) from Vulnerable to Endangered.

The updated listing reflects strong scientific evidence that, despite still occurring in moderate numbers, the species faces increasing pressure from habitat fragmentation, genetic hybridisation, and changing fire regimes.

Fig’s on‑ground ecological expertise and independent reporting helped demonstrate how land‑use impacts are driving long‑term risk for this unique, NSW‑endemic species. Read the full story here: https://www.kleinfelder.com.au/2026/04/09/kleinfelder-expertise-recognised-in-endangered-species-listing/

At Kleinfelder, we’re proud to support science‑based decisions that protect biodiversity while informing sustainable land management.
