We go the extra mile when estimating, supplying and installing your screw piles so that you have peace of mind your foundation is constructed on-time and certified to Engineering specifications. After 26,000 jobs and 1.5 million screw pile installations, we have established a reputation as Australia’s most reliable screw pile supplier for our transparency, performance, and technical expertise. And our patented threaded square pile head eliminates hot works on site and supports slab on ground and raised floor systems. The Katana Pile is a market leading, "twin fin" screw pile made from all Australian 400 grade high-tensile steel, and is manufactured in Brisbane QLD from Australian raw materials. This unprecedented strength means that the Katana Pile can be installed in most soil types and geological conditions. With a 50+ year design life guarantee, the Katana Pile and its associated products can be used in conjunction with all types of concrete slabs, as well as timber and steel flooring systems. The Katana Pile has been designed to allow for custom made attachments to be manufactured for portable building applications, sloping sites and generally difficult building site conditions. Katana Foundations uses highly accredited installers whom have all been trained and certified by industry experts. We cover all areas of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. Since our founding in 2012, our philosophy has been to install screw piles properly, and do it better than anyone else. How do you know a foundation was installed as designed once it’s buried?

Installation shouldn’t end when the pile disappears into the ground. Recording key data like depth and torque creates a clear installation record that can be checked, verified and referred back to later.

Because when you can’t see the foundation anymore, the data becomes the proof.

How much value do you place on having a verified installation record?

What’s actually happening beneath your house when the ground conditions change?

Reactive soils can shrink and swell as moisture levels change, and that movement can place extra demand on the foundations above.

That’s why foundation depth matters. Screw piles can be designed to extend through the more active soil layers and transfer loads into deeper, more stable ground.

Because when the ground changes, the real question is: what ground is your foundation actually relying on?

What happens when the ground moves more than your foundation was designed for?

Even relatively small changes in ground movement can influence how a footing system needs to perform.

Recent Victorian research suggests changing climate and moisture conditions may increase soil movement in some areas, potentially placing greater demands on foundation design.

The lesson isn’t simply that soil moves.

It’s that how much it moves matters.

Are our foundation designs keeping pace with changing ground conditions?

A great day of learning, sharing and talking all things screw piles.

Last week, members of the Katana Foundations team had the opportunity to attend and present at the Screw (Helical) Pile Workshop 2026 at QUT Gardens Point.

With around 90 attendees, including approximately 80 industry professionals, the room brought together engineers, researchers and industry specialists to share knowledge, discuss the challenges facing our industry and explore where screw pile technology is heading.

For us, being involved in conversations like these matters.

There is always more to learn, more to improve and more we can contribute as an industry.

A big thank you to the team at QUT for putting together such a valuable day, and to everyone who stopped by, asked questions and shared their experience with us.

We’re proud to play our part in advancing screw pile knowledge in Australia.

Why do buildings move even when nothing looks wrong at first?

Often, the answer starts below ground.

Reactive soils can shrink when they dry out and swell when moisture increases, which can create movement beneath a structure.
That’s why understanding the site conditions and soil classification matters before the foundation is designed.
The ground isn’t static and the foundation needs to respond to what’s actually there.

Have you ever worked on a site where soil movement became a problem?

Did you know the ground under your home can move?

Most people think of foundations as something fixed.

But the soil beneath a building isn’t always static. It can shrink, swell and shift depending on moisture, ground conditions and the type of soil on site.

That’s why site classification matters.

Because before you choose the right foundation, you need to understand the ground it’s sitting on.

Have you ever looked into your site classification before building?

What if the biggest problem with your building is the one you can’t see?

Foundation issues don’t always show up straight away. Sometimes they surface years later, becoming far more difficult and costly to fix.

That’s why getting the foundation right early matters, from planning and engineering through to installation.

Once it’s buried, its importance doesn’t disappear.

How much attention do you think foundations really get at the start of a project?

Foundation issues can become extremely costly if they’re discovered after construction.

A recent story has again highlighted something many people don’t think about until it becomes a problem: the foundation beneath a building.

We’re not commenting on the cause of that particular situation or the responsibility of any party. However, it’s an important reminder that foundation planning, engineering and installation deserve careful consideration from the beginning of every project.

Foundations may be out of sight once construction is complete, but their importance remains for the life of the structure.

Do you think enough consideration is given to foundations during the early stages of a project?
