Want to know how much water flow you actually have?

Try a simple bucket flow test.

A bucket flow test is an easy way to check the flow rate from your tap, pump, or irrigation outlet — helping with irrigation design, pump sizing, and diagnosing pressure issues.

Here’s how:
✔ Grab a bucket with a known volume (10L or 20L works well)
✔ Turn the water on fully
✔ Time how long it takes to fill the bucket
✔ Use this formula: Flow Rate (L/min) = Bucket Volume × 60 ÷ Time in Seconds

Example:
A 20L bucket filled in 15 seconds = 80L/min 💧

Tip: Make sure no other taps or irrigation zones are running during the test for the
most accurate result.

Why do pipelines burst?

Burst pipes can happen for a number of reasons, but some of the most common causes include ageing infrastructure, pressure surges, poor installation, ground movement, tree root intrusion, corrosion, and worn or damaged fittings.

In irrigation and water systems, sudden pressure changes — often called water hammer — can place a huge amount of stress on pipework over time. Small leaks, weak joins, blocked lines and incorrect pipe sizing can also eventually lead to failures if left unchecked.

The good news is that many pipeline issues can be prevented with regular servicing and inspections. Checking your system for leaks, monitoring water pressure, replacing ageing components, and making sure your system is designed correctly for the application can all help reduce the risk of costly breakdowns and water loss.
