Daylighting is not just about natural light.
It is about performance, comfort and how people experience a space.
Integrating daylight with artificial lighting delivers real impact.
Energy efficiency improves significantly.
Daylighting can reduce lighting energy by 20 to 60 percent, and overall energy costs by up to one third. Less reliance on artificial lighting also means lower heat generation and reduced cooling demand.
Spaces feel more dynamic.
Natural light changes throughout the day in brightness and colour, something artificial lighting alone cannot replicate. The best designs work with this, not against it.
Thermal comfort is enhanced.
Reducing artificial lighting lowers internal heat gain, while well designed daylighting supports passive heating and effective shading strategies.
And most importantly, people benefit.
Access to natural light supports circadian rhythms, improves mood, reduces fatigue and enhances productivity. Spaces with balanced daylight are consistently rated as more comfortable and enjoyable.
Good lighting design is not about choosing between natural and artificial light.
It is about integrating both to create better buildings.
