Following on from our last post about cutting anchor chain to length, it’s important to remember that not all anchor chain is created equal.

At Boat Harbour Marine, we stock G43 anchor chain in 8mm and 10mm.

Why? Because your anchor chain is one of the most important pieces of safety equipment on your boat.

Compared to lower-grade chains commonly available, G43 chain offers:

✔ Higher breaking strength
✔ Better durability and wear resistance
✔ Greater confidence when anchoring
✔ More strength for the same chain size

In fact, G43 chain can be up to 50% stronger than standard Grade L chain of the same size.

We regularly see boat owners unknowingly purchasing lower-grade chain because it’s cheaper, only to replace it sooner or discover it isn’t suitable for their anchoring setup.

A clean hull doesn’t just look better… it performs better. Marine growth creates drag, which can slow your boat down, increase fuel burn and put extra strain on your engine. Regular antifoul helps keep your boat running efficiently and protected below the waterline. ⚓️

Thinking of tackling your own antifoul? Here’s the basic process:

1. Haul the boat out
2. Scrape off any heavy growth and buildup
3. Pressure clean the hull
4. Sand and prep the surface
5. Repair any damaged areas if needed
6. Tape up waterlines and fittings
7. Apply primer if required
8. Roll on your antifoul
9. Replace anodes and check running gear before relaunch

A little maintenance now can save a lot of performance loss later. If you’re planning an antifoul job, we can help with the products, prep gear and advice to get it done properly. 🛥️
