Our monthly Staff BBQs are always a highlight, when bringing the team together there are always plenty of laughs!

Here’s a look back at our February and March BBQs 📸

March was especially meaningful as we took the opportunity to celebrate the incredible women in our business for International Women’s Day. It was important for us to recognise and thank them for the valuable contributions they make every day 🌸

These BBQs aren’t just about good food—they’re about strengthening our team, sharing updates, and building the kind of culture where everyone feels part of something bigger.

Looking forward to the next one!

We would like you to meet Stephan – One of the Faces Behind the work we’re so proud of!

Stephan, is our Machine Shop Supervisor and he has worked at J&S engineering for 14 years

When Stephan isn’t busy at work, you’ll likely find him having an ice cold beer scouting what the missus has been up to in the Garden. She loves to tinker!

We asked Stephan a few hard hitting questions, we just love his answers!!

What’s your favourite part of your job?
Seeing a job turn up, destroyed and dirty, then leaving all painted and looking like new.

How did you end up in this field/role? Any interesting journey or twist?
Following in dad’s footsteps, the hard part is trying to fill his boots.

What’s one thing you can’t live without during your workday?
COFFEE

What’s your go-to productivity hack or secret to getting things done?
Motivation! Without a motivated team, any project is subject to failure.

What’s a memorable moment or accomplishment you’re really proud of in your current role?
Mentoring the apprentices on the CNC mills and watching them grow while absorbing the knowledge like a sponge.. Reminds me of myself , many years ago😉

What’s one project or task you’ve worked on that you absolutely loved?
Hands down that has to be the Hitachi elevation system. I know you might have heard this answer before, but that emphasises just how special this project was to the whole team involved.

What’s the most unusual task or request you've ever received at work?
That has to be Tony McLennan asking me to polish a +/-70year old machine with turtle wax. Hey, that machine still gets the job done so I understand now.

What’s the most fun thing about working with your team?
Watching all the wealth of knowledge and skills come forth from all the veterans, when a difficult project pokes its ugly head out.

If your job were a movie, what would the title be and why?
Definitely one of the “Saw 12” movies, you never know what to expect or what will turn up, some parts look nasty when they arrive 😂

Introducing our 2026 1st–4th Year Apprentice Group 👏

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been proud to spotlight some of our apprentices individually — while not everyone wanted to have their own feature post, each and every apprentice plays an important role in our team’s success.

From our 1st years just starting out, to our 4th years preparing to take the next big step in their careers, this group represents the future of our industry. Their dedication to learning, improving their skills and supporting one another is something we’re incredibly proud of.

We’re excited to see what 2026 holds for this talented group as they continue to develop, challenge themselves and build strong careers in the trade.

Please join us in congratulating our apprentices and wishing them another successful year ahead!

"MEET THE APPRENTICE" Spotlight
Meet Kaedyn!!
Kaedyn is a 4th year Fitter/Machinist currently working afternoon shift in the Main Shop here at J&S Engineering!

We asked him a few hard hitting questions and we just love his answers:

What made you choose an apprenticeship?
School wasn't for me and my old man is in the same industry.

Favourite part of the job?
The crew he works with!

Favourite Movie of all time??
Grease

We’re incredibly proud of Andrew, our WH&S Officer, and Kade one of our skilled tradesmen and a Hunter Trade College alumni, who were recently invited to speak with Year 11 students at the Hunter Trade College.

Kade began his journey at Hunter Trade College before securing an apprenticeship with J&S Engineering and Maintenance. Last year, he proudly completed his apprenticeship and is now a fully qualified tradesman — a fantastic achievement and a testament to his hard work and dedication.

Together, Andrew and Kade shared real-world insights about entering the workforce and what employers value when hiring. Their practical advice gave students a clearer understanding of how to prepare for opportunities and step into their careers with confidence.

Opportunities like this play an important role in bridging the gap between education and industry, and we’re always grateful to help support and inspire the next generation of professionals. 👏

Thank you to Hunter Trade College - RTO 91287 for the invitation and for showing us around your facility — we’re proud to be part of these meaningful conversations.
