Recently, members of the HLS Healthcare team attended Basketball Victoria's jersey launch for the Victoria Marvels and Victoria Wonders, where we had the opportunity to meet athletes, coaches, families, volunteers and supporters who continue to make wheelchair basketball such a strong and inspiring community.

As we expand our partnership with Basketball Victoria, we're proud to support opportunities for participation, connection and inclusion both on and beyond the court.

One of the most common misconceptions we hear in aged care is:

*"Patient handling equipment is only needed for the very frail."*

The reality is quite different.

The right equipment can support residents across a range of mobility levels, helping reduce the risk of falls, support safer transfers, encourage participation, and protect staff from manual handling injuries.

It's not about replacing movement.

It's about making movement safer, more comfortable, and more sustainable for everyone involved.

The earlier the right support is introduced, the greater the opportunity to maintain dignity, confidence, and independence.

This World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2026, we’re reminded that dignity is often found in the smallest moments. Being listened to patiently, being handled with care, being treated as a person first, not just a patient.

Growing older should never mean feeling invisible.

And care should never take away someone’s comfort, independence, or sense of self.
