The Blue Wren is coming along nicely and I’m very happy with how he’s turning out.

While the stained glass and steelwork get most of the attention, there’s an important stage that often goes unseen — making sure the sculpture is protected from the elements for years to come.

This Blue Wren will now go through the full weatherproofing process:
✔ Sand blasted
✔ Etch primed
✔ Two coats of enamel paint

Taking the time to properly prepare and protect the steel is just as important as creating the sculpture itself.

Stay tuned — the next update will be even more colourful.

A little while ago a client asked if I could build a custom stand for one of our fire pits using an old ex-army tank cog they had.

Challenge accepted.

After a fair bit of cutting, fabrication, and fitting, the stand is now complete and ready for its fire pit. The heavy steel cog gives it a unique industrial look while providing a solid base that will last for many years.

I always enjoy projects that are a little different and give old materials a new purpose.

What do you think of the finished result?

Every sculpture starts with a single piece of steel and an idea.

This is the beginning of a special commissioned piece for Little Marney’s Gifts for Town & Country – a Blue Wren sculpture that will eventually come to life with steel, stained glass, and plenty of character.

At this stage it's all templates, measurements, bending, and fabrication, but it's always exciting to see the first shapes emerge from the workshop.

I'll share the journey as this one progresses.

The second stage of this Deer Sculpture commission was all about seeing how the piece interacted with real light and its final surroundings.

Stained glass always behaves differently once it leaves the workshop, and this sculpture really came alive outdoors. The warm amber tones shift constantly depending on the angle of the sun, creating a completely different look from morning through to late afternoon.

I particularly like how the sandstone base and surrounding garden soften the strong steel framework and help the sculpture feel naturally connected to the landscape.

Custom commissions like this are always rewarding because every piece ends up belonging uniquely to its space.

There is something very satisfying about finally seeing a sculpture outside in natural light instead of sitting in the workshop.

The sunlight completely changes this Deer Sculpture throughout the day, especially through the stained glass sections. Early morning and late afternoon light really bring the colours alive and give the whole piece a very different feel depending on where you are standing.

This one was created as a custom commission for a client and I think it has found the perfect home.

I always enjoy creating sculptures that are designed specifically for the space they will live in.

Creating this Deer Sculpture commission has been a genuinely rewarding project from start to finish.

Combining hand-forged steel with individually shaped stained glass pieces, this sculpture was designed specifically for our client’s garden and will become a real feature piece as the light changes throughout the day.

It’s always a privilege turning an idea into something permanent and personal. I’m looking forward to seeing this one in its new home where the colours and reflections will really come alive in the landscape.

A client recently asked us to create a custom 3/4 enclosed fire pit instead of our standard 1/2 enclosed design — and we were happy to make it happen.

To suit the design, we also added extra airflow holes around the base to help it burn exactly as intended. From all reports, it’s performing beautifully.

One of the things we enjoy most is working with clients to create something tailored to their space and how they want to use it. If you have a custom fire pit or sculpture idea in mind, feel free to get in touch — we’re always open to discussing new designs.
